I have found these larvae eating up honey locust and hickory many times. but as already stated, after a year they stop. I have honey locust logs, uncovered stacked up off the ground for 4 years and the larvae haven't eaten it up more than they did that first year. Also I have gotten fresh cut honey locust logs in that time, and come out to find 30+ fresh bore holes in them. so the borers are here, they just go after the fresh cut stuff.

This is what I mixed and sprayed on the wood. The other spray that I have used for borers, I got at Ace Hardware. Couldn't find that bottle. IMG_20190207_161552500_HDR.jpg IMG_20190207_161603562.jpg

Hickory borer and locust borer look almost identical. The easiest way to differentiate the two is the hickory bore is active in the spring, locust borer is in the fall. I’ve read that locust borer will only affect black locust but I myself haven’t had any experience with them.

Don't know what kind they are, but these borers get in oak, hickory, pine, sap part of black walnut. We call them flat head borer or chicken treats...

That's what the info said when I went looking. Active in fall, but they were all over some trees my buddy had cut at his home site in April. Most assuredly Honey Locust. I had encountered hickory borers previously, but this was my first time ever noticing the Locust Borers. We cut down probably 30-40 honey locusts, a bunch of ash and some miscellaneous. They were on the honey locust before it could be pulled to landing. I checked the other standing trees and saw no activity. It's like they know that the tree is distressed and or dying.

I’ve read that they can tell when a tree is dying. Strange thing is I’ve rung a lot of honey locust and they don’t hardly bother them. I have a few rung that borer have gotten into but for the most part they don’t bother them. So my plan is to leave them standing dead for a few years and let the bark and thorns fall off then cut them down and process.

It's two year wood unless you live in the desert.

I don't see the dust unless there's excessive moisture. Split it thinner if you are having a problem drying it out. Big splits, when dry are the stuff of legendary burning times.
