Whacked this nearly dead maple today. Victim of the grapevines. Fell exactly where I was planning :dex: 3D7902B7-B4BE-48E8-8376-F41A590648B1.jpeg 1B594ED3-05FF-4251-B61F-CC3D5784EF5C.jpeg

I actually walked about 10 acres today and marked 15 trees for some dropping action. I estimate having about 6 cords of logs on the ground and think this trees will get me to 10. Some much larger beech, hickory and maples. Marked a few 12-16 inch cherries and ash also. This warm up was great today!!!

I've seen grape vines get pretty big but never to the point where they starve a tree's canopy of light. Wisteria on the other hand I've seen girdle a tree trunk. Nasty stuff.

Lots of heat there. Nice when they go where you want.

Those vines can be troublesome, but good you got the tree down where you needed it.

Grape and bittersweet are the two big ones around these parts. Also Virginia creeper, that one doesn't get so big, but the grape and bittersweet use it to go up larger trees.

Some folks have huge poison ivy vines around here, I killed all of it on my lot about 5 years ago

Nice work. I have nothing but contempt for vines and thorny brush. I make a habit of carrying a machete with me when I go for walks and wack any I see, no matter the species, and let them hang to dry. When I'm cutting I always use the smaller saw and take out any in the vicinity of where I'm cutting. Eventually I'll get them all.

Seems like grape vines love maple for some reason. I have declared war on them here at my place. Sometimes you cut them down and they die, other times they sprout like a 1000 chutes from the root lol.

Nice job on falling the tree. Getting it to drop where you want is always a big plus.

There have been a many that have gone wrong for sure. This one was spot on, using the powerhead for proper alignment.
