Anybody try one of those self powered room fans they use on wood stoves?

I had one on my Harman. It worked fine but not powerful like an electric fan.

Had one on my soapstone woodstove at my old place and it worked fine. As mentioned, doesn't move a huge amount of air, but does get some circulation going. Don't think it would work well on a pellet stove, but they might have made strides in the technology since the year I bought mine (maybe 2003 or so).

Had one on my wood/coal stove, No workie on the pellet eater. Doesn't get hot enough. So we donated it to the inlaws. Made her mom happy as she hated the breeze from the house fan dad was using. Plus it was silent too! :)

Made one once, bought a bunch of peltier modules, mounted them to heat sink, low voltage fan on top.It worked. It did not move much air.Decided I did not want it on top of stove, for what little it did,and had to move it when adding pellets.

Nope. Our woodstove has to be choochin' with top plate HOOOOOTT to get our ecofan to spin.

And if a pellet stove did that get hot there must be something wrong.

Just found this article that discusses high temp stove tops and low temp stove tops and what fans work best for each. There seem to be some fans that will work at about 155*, which would be in the range of some pellet stoves. Of course this is an article from across the pond so some of the models discussed may not be available her in the good old US of A

The interesting thing that I see is that the fans that I got for the soapstone stove (almost 15+ years ago) had to be placed at the back of the stove (per directions and experience). The fans worked from the difference in temperatures of the stove top (hot) and the air to the back of the stove (cooler). The fans depicted in the article show them in the middle of the stove, or even toward the front. So it seems that the technology is a bit different than what I have used before.

Hi all where do you measure the temp of the stove. I have a laser temp gauge. Obviously the box can run 600-700 plus degrees and I usually check from where the fan blows out and that is 300ish. I have a huge ceiling fan (18 foot ceilings) that the stove pushes itself to help keep the rooms warm. Was just wondering proper pace to determine temp.

We have one on our Nashua and love it ! It's a military surplus stove fan. It looks like a Dutch oven and it's intake is on the top and it blows down onto the stovetop.
