I agree. If I had a CCW permit there's no way I'd take that. I have a decent S&W 459 9mm that I'm selling. I like a Ruger .22 mag/.22 lr 6 shot down at a local shop. He wants too much, and won't give me enough for the S&W. So, I'll prolly hang onto it.
I dont think I would carry a 22 or 22mag either as a carry gun!!!??? And those versa carry things look like the ticket. Gonna get one off ebay got my 2" 38.
You guys are killin me! The great state of NJ won't let me, or anyone else carry, even though we are technically a CC state. If i were to carry i'd go with the XDS .45 . I compared the shield and XDS but the XDS fit my hands alot better. That shield sure is a nice carry gun though.
Currently NJ is a "may issue" state. Which basically means that it's the judges discretion whether you have justifiable need to carry concealed. So technically Yes NJ is a CC state but your odds of getting a permit are slim to non unless your in law enforcement, security work, or you are a judge.
When I picked up the shield at cabelas in hamburg, pa, there was a nice lady from nj purchasing a firearm. I do not know if she had a cc, but her timing doing the checks took longer than mine.
You can't buy a pistol in a state you dont reside in???? So maybe thats why it took so long for her but not sure why they would do the paper work in that case?? What's the deal with cabelas stocking so many sigs? I went in monday and more thanhalf the pistols seemed like they were sigs , looking at the stock you would think they were the number one selling gun in america?? At least the 2 near me are that way.
The standard reason for requesting the LTC in mass is " all lawful purposes". I can't understand why they wouldn't allow it just for protection reasons, at least that was the reason I put down when I was younger and had no problems
You can but it has to go through an FFL in your state. You can't just walk into an out of state gun store and walk out with a pistol.
True but did not realize the big stores like Cabelas would transfer guns. Academy won't transfer them?? Its a shame the latter has some of the best prices I have seen but their inventory is so spotty

I am here in SC. NC accepts our permit but GA does not and I live a half hour from the border...if I need to go to a store other than a grocery, lowes or walmart I have to go to GA. I just completed my paperwork for a non resident Utah license which is accepted in GA as well as like AL, MISS, Ark, and like 32 other states. Its a backdoor way around some stupid non recipcoracy laws. Class was$50 a 5 yr permit is $51 and renewal is $15/5yrs.
If your traveling through a non-carry state, I believe you are fine to "un-carry" it and just pack it in a case separate from the ammo in your vehicle. You are then just legally transporting, not carrying. Once you are into the next reciprocity state you can then start carrying it again. I'd double check this to make sure its still the legal way to go, but I'm pretty sure it is. I've also flown from Ohio to WA (a reciprocity state) packing a firearm along. Just had to pack it up per the regs and go through the hoops at the airport. No big deal although I'm sure all "big brother's" bells and whistles were going off behind the scenes keeping an special eye on me.
I sure am glad that Tennessee is ccw friendly and has all but about 10 states that do not have a reciprocity with their permit. Also, the shield is a great little gun for summer carry!!
I too own an M&P Shield. Had for about 10 months now. Use it regularly in our local gun club IDPA matches. As long as I do my part it does its. Added Talon grips and I changed out my front sight with an Ameriglo pro dot and the rear with a 10-8 performance. I really love how that front dot pops.
