Just another day the weather guessers got it wrong. More fake weather! Lucky for me I have lots of spruce for the house. Nice and toasty in the house. 1430C01B-43C0-4930-B140-245DB07C9808.png

39F damp & sloppy. Moved/filled 3 totes up to boiler area. Snow's greasy & tough to get around on. I think I'd rather have yesterday's sun & 18 degrees back. I hate this gloom. Boiler goes a lot longer on a load though.

20s here, spent some time outside trying to re-route the drainage culvert that's been dumping water through the yard and in to the driveway.. Futility with everything frozen. "Natural springs are great!" They said. "you can water your gardens for free! " they said. Rargh. :)

You must have gotten a massive birch score! Reminds me of NH mountain man last year with his elm for months on end!

Yes Midwinter , you remember well, about 2 cord. This year I don't think I have any, there could be small amounts in the stacks for the next couple of years. This is the year of the Oak, about a weeks worth left.

Really blowing through the wood this year. But this is because we had a bunch of Aspen and it's burns quick like pine.

Next few days here it is supposed to dip into the 20*s with chances of an inch or so of snow. OH the HORRORS! I know you folks dealing with radical low temps and feet of snow back mid west and in the east will laugh at this but the twenties is cold for these parts. 3" of snow will paralyze most of the area. I love it when we have snow here because with no traffic, all becomes quiet. This is something I envy you folks out in the boonies for your lack of traffic! We will just throw another hunk of Madrone in the stove with a few smaller pieces of Fir and the house will be toasty. The big bugaboo of course is there might be a burn ban. This happens when the air is stagnant but for this little cold spell there seems to be a respectable amount of air movement forecast. Hope all you folks back east stay warm and well fed and weather the cold with no difficulties!

Im working night shift at a coal mine on top of a mountian in western Alberta. I just talked with a hot shot driver making a drop from Edmonton. Its -38C out there plus whatever the wind chill is. We had to open the shop door to let some smoke out from trying to get a haul truck running. Within 5 minutes of it being open a puddle just inside the floor about an inch deep turned to slush. It's bad when the air stings your face and you're indoors. Lol. 4 more days and I'm off for 2 weeks. Plans...weekend trump for 2 days. Come Monday, back home and I'm sitting in front of the woodstove for at least a solid week.

It looks like we are going to have a break from the heat for a little while, we even have some rain forecast for Wednesday which will be great because it is as dry as a chip down here right now.

And it gets better !!! 45 minutes ago, the fire alarm starts going off. What the...... We all go out to the muster point and waited for about 2 minutes for the safety lady. Good lord no. Tonight is not the night to be waiting outside for someone. We went back into the hallway and waited there. Apparently, the alarm is originating from a building that's at least 800 yards from our shop. They lost power over there earlier and we're suspecting it's a burst frozen pipe that's caused a pressure drop in the sprinkler system and that's what set it off.

Now we're sitting in the coffee room (quietest place in our building that we can find) waiting for the electrician from town to show up and shut off this racket. Cant do anything because if there is some emergency, we wont know it's happening. ((((SIGH))) And they wonder why things take so long to get done.

39f here at 4:30AM. A little snow and wind predicted tonight into tomorrow, followed by -10f by Friday. I am not burning any of my wood now, but will be hauling more into the garage today in preparation for the next cold snap.
