This is my first post. I really enjoy following the forums on here. I have been following this site for a while but haven't had anything really good to post about. This is the second full season we have been burning after we installed our wood stove.

I have been working to get next year's firewood ready but it has been so wet here in west central Indiana until now. My father in law works at a saw mill and offered some of the cutoffs that were just going to go to the chipper.

I split some of the truck load with a friend that was needing some wood for this cold snap that we had. It was all red oak! It is still pretty green but I will get it cut to length and split soon.

Welcome Sycamore03! I like to burn sycamore, but I don't enjoy splitting it. Those are some nice oak cutoffs, great score! Do you scrounge all your wood, or do you have access to a woodlot?

I have a small woods, maybe an acre plus, on our property but have access to a lot of wood with family. This was just a great opportunity that I couldn't pass up.

Get as many as you can. I'm no stranger to red and white oak cutoffs from a mill. Just keep getting them and give them time. By the time I get into mine they'll have 4-5 years in the stacks. I can't wait to burn em. Did I mention to just keep getting them!!

Oh those will definitely keep you warm. If you can let those stay in the stack to at least 20-21, another year even better. Welcome aboard Sycamore03

As my neighbor says "keep taking while you can because it wont always be there". He is my local encouragement to keep collecting.

    Welcome to the forum.

If I could get cut-offs like that it would make me very happy! Congratulations.

Also good on you for sharing with a friend even if this is not the best wood just yet. If you can get it started, it will burn. Certainly not the best in an epa approved stove.

Here is some good reading material for you: Primer on Woodburning by Backwoods Savage You can either read it online or even download it.
