I am really looking forward to the variety in a few years. I have a good problem to have right now, I have nothing but black locust that’s hit 3 years, approx 3 cords worth to finish out this year. More for next as well. It’s plentiful here and gets some kind of root rot where they constantly fall down for the pickings. Only problem is it takes forever to get burning hot when you don’t have another wood to mix with it , once it’s going it’s awesome.
I likes me some of that good red oak! Splits great and burns even better! Like you I myself am eyeing a rather large red oak that has already fallen. Asked the property owner if I could have it and he stated he had already given it to another tree cutter but he has not shown up in almost 3 weeks so looks like another visit is in line.

Used to live right on an arm of the Chesapeake bay in a place called Andover Estates when my Dad was stationed at Pax River. Spent half my days wading, swimming, crabbing, frog gigging and such. Doesn’t get any better than that to spend your days! Soft shell sandwich is as good as it gets. I spend a lot of time on the bay and rivers fishing and crabbing. I am in Ellicott City
That’s a real problem... that wood is terrible- I’ll swing up that way and free you of that dreadful situation.
I knew that would get a response or two but seriously it’s like trying to burn granite, wonder if it’s some kind of evolved fire protection
I've found over the years that these epa stoves like to burn at least 2 different kinds of wood to get the best burn. My quadrafire is that way, and so was our lopi.
