Ivanhoe...to save that scraper plate I'd just cut along the angled edge and weld in 1/4" SS...easy fix...

I’m new to this forum but I purchased my 50 F back in 2009 (I believe). Serial #2483. I only used it for two years before I retired to Florida. There have been no upgrades to this unit other than a new relite plate. I ended up renting my house and the first tenants used it and the igniter died. It was never used until my daughter moved in 3 years ago. This season she as had nothing but trouble with it. I came up for a visit and started working on it. She stated it kept overfilling the burn pot. I found out that she never cleaned underneath the burn pot. I cleaned it out along with everything else but could not keep a manual gel/pellet fire going.
I just replaced the gasket on the ash pan and noticed a screw missing on the auger feed plate (pic enclosed). How will this affect the start up? Sorry for the long post.

    First, Welcome to FHC :handshake:
This is your first attempt on manual lighting, in my case you need to have lots of pellets(about 2 cups) to burn while the furnace reaches it's proof of fire so it continues on.
Activating the start of unit too early might time out before it reaches heat level(proof of fire) for to continue, hope I make sense.

I wait about 10 minutes before hitting start after I light the fire and I manually feed pellets with the auger feed button(primer button?) to maintain a big fire if needed to reach the proof of fire time limit (about 10 to 12 minutes maybe more).

Kinda curious about where you located the furnace...looks real close to the "house" furnace...not sure how you service the exhaust fan...might want to wrap those duct pipes...it's cheap and will improve efficiency...

When's the last time you cleaned that exhaust pipe? It's awful "horizontal" and, if not cleaned, could easily back-up...your starting issues may just be poor airflow...would need to see a vid/pic on startup...you should be seeing good flame movement...if not then I'd do a deep dive cleaning (including the back plate)..

    I think that's a rivet missing...at least mine is riveted...basically it's a small vacuum leak...but shouldn't keep it from running...

    Thanks for all the suggestions.
I could seal around the flange with high heat sealant if would help.

The annual requires me to detach the ducts so that I can rotate the stove to get to the exhaust fan. Not fun but there wasn't much room, as you can see.

I will be cleaning the exhaust pipe just to make sure it is clear of debris. The horizontal is just within limits. I didn't like the length but had no choice. It does work though. The outside of the hose gets pretty nasty.

I'll post the outcome after all is said and done.

Your comment about the outside of your house has me a bit concerned as pellet stoves generally burn very clean...mine only smokes on startup and pot change...plugging up the hole will only help.

Do you have any pics of it running previously? Just curious how it runs with it's current setup...thx

Hopefully I'll have it back together tomorrow, all cleaned and ready to fire. I will post a pic of the flame for you to analyze.

Are you talking about the plastic catch latch, if yes I will dig up the info from a place in Mississauga. Dexter has added a superior latch system on his, just look at pics of his furnace.
A video would be better instead of a pic. Might have to upload to Youtube to be able to post it.

This after 30 minutes. Draft trim is at 4, combustion is around 50% open and auger feed at 5. My pellets back up in the chute and then fall all at once. This causes my fire to die down then go crazy.

You can see the pellet back up in the chute, not normal! Is it possible the pellets have accumulated moisture? What kind are they? I have certain brands(LG) that don't do well in my furnace. Do you notice any moisture on the hopper lid?
Is this furnace a Rev. H model? Trying to determine which burnpot you have.
Might have to clean the chute if it has sticky residue from sticky pellets!
