I use to wear Merills a lot but they arent Merrill any more....like many brands they were bought

Started getting pain in my toe area due to toe box being narrowed by current designs. Switched to Keen and those problems went away.

I also read up on Vibram soles being slick and found that many versions get too hard once they get cold causing less tracking. Ok in summer but not in winter.

Overall Keen has filled the bill for the last few years for me for summer/vented low hikers to warm/waterproof mid height utility for winter

Never heard of Keen.Have worn Danners for years, for boots, and various low cut boot s for work shoes, being a mechanic. Some Danners they started making overseas, not quite the same quality.I have a set of Irish Setter knee boots(whoever makes them) made in china, and their grip on ice is awesome, but life expectancy does not look good.My feet have changed with age,and injuries,I have 2 pair of almost new danner insulated 12B boots, for free,if anybody can use them.My feet have changed,I now wear D.Old age sucks.

My feet have definitely changed too and I thought maybe the same when having toe pain but wider shoes were too loose. I finally talked with people at several real shoe stores who said that Merrill have narrowed their toe box. One suggested Keen and those worked for me. They also said if I didnt change to another brand (and they are a Merrill dealer) I would get corns and other foot issues from what I was describing.

Same here w/ Merills G, even the "wide" sizes were too tight. Ended up going to Wolverine brand for the same reasons. JC Penney was carrying them, picked them up for under $50 last holiday season, after the coupons / discounts were applied.

On season 2 w/ this current pair: so far, so good - they're holding up well.

Old age, you are talking about old age? You are leaving some of us ancient ones out.

Yes,I can see that. But,as I used to wear different shoes and boots, for work and everything,my "dam" feet changed.Even went to doctor, lol, part of old age. Those free boots I have to give away, have been sitting upstairs for over 5 years, lol.I really hate to take 200 dollar boots to the thrift store,I prefer them to go to someone that prefers quality.BTY,the 2 sets i now normally wear, are Danners.

Too bad as I swore by Merrill for about 10 years. My winter Keens have 2 years on em aw well and still holding strong. I could use new insoles though.
