Asking for a friend, who has a problem with a member of the family. His wife, every time he brings home some wood, splits it, stacks it, she starts complaining. Some times she gets pretty irate, he tries really hard to keep it neat, stacked, and covered. But, nice wood is hard to pass up and if he brings home even a small amount, she starts in on him. His excuse is, he only bringing home what we have burned so far, and he's trying to keep ahead of his cutting wood so, he's not pressed in the spring, or early summer months. So, he asked, how should he explain it so she can understand instead of raising cain every time he brings any little amount of wood home?

I suggested he let the wood really dwindle down in the wood shed, then, he'd have to cut more, which would be tough on him and he'd really be behind the 8 ball and have a lot of green, or semi green wood to season. What do you think, any suggestions? The poor guy's about to pull his hair out. I feel for him, and would sure like to give his some good advice how to handle this. I'm really fortunate, my wife never say's much. So, what say you??

I was going to suggest that it seemed like the kind of headache best treated with 9 mm aspirin, but marriage counseling or divorce are more “politically correct” these days.

    Sounds like a "freinds" wife.
    She dislikes unkempt appearances.
as long as the wood pile is out of sight she is OK.
She doesn't like logs or firewood left out in sight.
She doesn't like the wood chips and bark pieces left after splitting if they are visible on the driveway.

I have a very neat and orderly wood pile, in fact I have had comments on how its nice a neat and clean looking for firewood.
I mean my "friend" has had comments.:emb:

The firewood is under a lean too on the north side of a workshop/garage. There are couple of pcs of firewood stuck up in between the rafters of the roof that are visible from the house. It has been requested that they be moved as it offends her sensibilities.

    My "friend" can relate.

Solution to this is really simple, hardwire thermostats to be set at 45 degrees. All extra heat comes from the wood stove. When she figures out that wood means Heat, she'll be encouraging him to bring home more wood..

This same tactic was used on my then 12 yo daughter, who was complaining about bringing wood from stacks to wood deck.. Wife went to Canada to visit. House got cold, Daughter decided wood heat is better than device real quick!

This is a serious concern of hers? Not bringing home other women, or finding another woman's g-string in the laundry, or evidence of drug or alcohol abuse, or being enamored with watching grown men in tights play grab azz on a field all weekend...nope, you're bringing home firewood dammit!

    Unbelievable

I've had my share of dumb issues with women whom I no longer am dating. Everything from politics to disagreements in music taste to my severe disinterest in everything sports (unless it has an engine or a bowling alley), and even an absolute blow out with a chick because I don't like drinking or going out to clubs. Never any firewood related fights though.

Whether she realizes it or not it is her choice to be a witch. Whatever the reason(s) are.
She either needs a new guy or new priorities.
Who would want to live like that, always complaining. Eesh. Move on.

Tell her to stop being a beech and firewood hoarding is a poplar thing to do in the winter. There's no need for the sassafrassy attitude, so get off your soap boxelder and either 1) take your Ash on up the road or 2) make me a sammich. Hopefully she doesn't get treemendously p'od and pulls out the ironwood on you...if she does, leaf the place immediately and cedar later in court.

B.Brown if you are good friends, you could offer to let him store his wood at your house. That way he is still drying some wood while he works things out with the missus. He can let his hoard at the house drop to zero and then tell her that she is in charge of heating the house... heck, drain the pipes, turn off the heat and do some indoor winter camping...

I almost wonder if this whole thing is about appearances among neighbors and friends... she might think that those who heat with wood appear to be poor and the more stacks there are around the yard, the poorer one is.. a lot of people become poor because they always want to appear to be wealthy and “keep up with the Joneses”.

I think if I was to get rid of the first wife, I wouldn’t make much of an effort to find another....

Tell him "Toss her on the bed and take your pants off of her and put them back on yourself where they belong"!!! I am also reminded of an old quote "Marriage can be like a deck of cards. At first it is all hearts and diamonds but after a while, sometimes all you want is a club and a spade"!
