How is the government shutdown effecting you? Today we are at day 32.

As a federal law enforcement officer I have not been paid. Because of my position I am an excepted employee not a furloughed employee. Excepted employees are always guaranteed to be paid where as furloughed employees need Congress to pay a bill.

Within the ranks we have a debate of when pay checks will flow. I personally don’t think there will be a resolution until the general public is effected. Which I believe will happen the first of March. That is when SNAP, section 8 housing and similar programs will run out of money.

Feel sorry for all the folks left high and dry. Thank you for your service. Really want to avoid the political discussion that will inevitably surface from this topic. Let's just hope some common sense prevails and this problem gets solved ASAP.

What we need is to have the elected officials to be the adults in the room. And not the children throwing a temper tantrum. It’s unfortunate that ever since becoming a career that politicians have stopped taking the constinuants best interest and now have their own agenda.

Certainly not all of us here on FHC are of the same political point of views. However this community is a bright spot among forums on the internet. We respect each other have various discussions without issues.

Maybe if more of the world was like FHC we would be better of.

I value your service, and that of all the government employees keeping us safe. Disasters are unpredictable, and we can't afford to have our protectors furloughed.

People are used as pawns in a game... it happens everywhere whether in the private sector or government... it should be a reminder to all not to live beyond ones means and to have an emergency fund that doesn’t simply consist of a credit card that the financial company can cancel at any time...

Got laid off during the Great Recession because company management wanted to improve its negotiating position with the rest of the work force.. employees were willing to work together to reduce costs, but the company wanted to rule with an iron fist.... had to grab a job that took me away from my family for 13 months to ensure they had a roof over their heads, food on the table and healthcare...

Take care of the people around you as you never know when you may need their assistance... in the long term, I think you will be okay despite the challenges of the near term... I’m assuming you still have healthcare and anticipate receiving back pay when this situation is cleared up...

    Best of luck....

They should be locked in a room (without pay) till they learn to get along! No food or potty breaks till they get to work on this situation.
I've had it with politicians!!! ... All of them!!!!!!

This is what you get when there are no term limits

Thank you for your service Rope ..

One of my tenants (a couple) both are employed be federal govt. They are required to go to work but have not been paid. I feel that's worse than furloughed as they can go get temporary employment for $$..

Obviously, not their fault, wrote up a contract, keeping the lights, heat on with no rent is tough. Good long term tenants. They are having a hard enough time paying car payments and gasoline.

His comment they better solve it in next few weeks or I can't afford to drive to work!!

I am personally okay, I am a excepted employee that must work under shutdown by law and same law I must be paid. I was curious if anyone else has been effected, either by employment or other ways. I have wood to keep my house warm, 2 deep freezes full from successful hunting and fishing seasons. And money in the bank.

I appreciate the well wishes, I was interested if anyone has been impacted.

Some background I started adulthood by joining the military. On what turned out to be my last deployment I was injured and medically retired from the military. Fortunately my military skills made me recruitable. I have spent my adult life velcroing on body armor, gearing up, standing up or going into harms way. I am not cut from the cloth that likes to be used as a pawn in someone’s agenda.

That has been a fear that is common in expensive to live states, cities counties. I am afraid that many employees will be forced to look for other employment. Or who are fed up of being the ones that pay the price for Washington temper tantrums. Whenever an example needs to be made by the federal government the employees pay. I am sure that in the corporate world this is the true for that company as well.

Retired federal employee of 29 years, our 084 position was listed as a critical position so we were never affected. I wonder if the govt is looking at a RIF in the future?

I am 25 years and would take it. They won’t offer to my position. We are short handed and have been my whole career.

The shutdown impacts all of us in terms of our collective faith in government. I agree with idea that both sides should not leave a room, be cloistered from lobbyists and media, and not be paid until an agreement is reached...

16 hours a day with 8 off until things are settled would end in soon enough.

As a young man deployed in war of the early 90’s. I quickly learned I have faith in my brothers, not the political machine that gave us orders.

Until WE THE PEOPLE take back and make accountable to Us. There will continue to be the nonsense of political ideology is placed above her people’s well-being.

The most interesting thing I see in politics is just how much money most of these career politicians have. Maybe some were independently wealthy before, but I imagine a lot are getting fat and happy on the job. They lose touch with their constituents, and build these career long adjendas. If the president has a two term limit, why is the house and Senate different? Keep it fresh.

The infighting is insane too, and going to tear the country apart. 5 billion for a wall is insane, but that was a reasonable amount for a health care website that didnt work? Of no, we wont end the shutdown by giving you the money for the wall, but how about 32(?) Billion in foreign aid instead?

This is what ALL of the politicians are ultimately striving for..................................control of the wealth and control of the masses.

Found this with a quick search. It's an old list but gives a good idea. I'm sure there's a more updated list somewhere.
