It's been a few days since we've had a good rain. We're getting close to drought conditions here in central PA
Currently 1* predicted low -4* Inside temp setting at 69* and stove still on a mainly honey locus diet. Nor burning that hard.
18° going down to 8 tonight here on southern md. But Inside a balmy 73 , so says my happy wife.. life is good w a hot oak fire going and dogs peacefully snoozing. It was 45 yesterday morn.
minus 7*F this AM my smorgasbord of hardwood from last evening kept the house at 70* until about 10am (16hr burn time). I put on a small load of Ash and Maple to get through till this evening. I went back out at 5pm and reloaded the OWB tonight I put on a load of Red and White Oak that I sorted out of the stack. It is going to be another below zero night. It never got above 4*F today
-17F here this morning, made it up to 16. Very little wind & sunny. Was a nice day, wish I could've worked outdoors this afternoon, but no such luck. +2 here now, loaded the boiler with Oak & Ash. It kept up good last night, but water temp was down this morning. Shoulda loaded it a little heavier I guess. Was 69 in the office & shop instead of 72. Not bad, but toasting off a bit of wood. I think I'm under 20 cords on hand now.
How oak slabs burn . Turn up the volume. 16f outside and 80f in living room Sent from my LGL84VL using Tapatalk
Me too.. my family would think I was nuts. When it was 5 ° n snowing I'd be out in the woods w my knife n rifle camping in a deadfall lean two I would build, cooking squirl stew on an open fire.. just what I love to do to this day. Wife n I go camping w friends as much as we can.
