What type of wood pile do you have?

In Scandinavia, it is common wisdom that you can tell a lot about a person from his woodpile.

For example, an upright and solid pile: Upright and solid man.

Low pile: cautious man, could be shy or weak.

Tall pile: Big ambitions, but watch out for sagging and collapse.

Flamboyant pile, widely visible: Extroverted, but possibly a bluffer.

    No woodpile: no husband.

Upright and solid - Low pile - sometimes flamboyant... yours truly.
    Does that make any sense?

Tall and long. With the occasional collapse. My prized 17 footer on 1" pipe fell over last night! It was almost 6' tall, single row.

Must be the old age. And maybe the beer.

Fat and tall, skinny and long. None of these describes me or my size. I am just a average guy that likes to css firewood and mill a few boards

One of our old sages in the county, who served on the council for a while, said he could tell what political party a household was by the woodpile.

Organized and neat, was an R. All haphazard- D.

I read that in Vermont, Maine, or somewhere like that, that a man is judged as marriage material but his woodpile.

I think mine are a good representation of myself. Spouts of great motivation, and planning with good work ethic, followed by stretches of complacency and not thought out plans, and all around half-butted, throw it togetherness... I'm a bullseye with a plinker, or close enough for a grenade kind of guy

Long, stout and solid. It has been an evolution that correlates with age, and I got tired of taller stacks toppling over. When younger and busy with three young children, stacking was somewhat of an afterthought, and I often had haystacks of split wood piles that would be stacked at random times. Nowadays with three adult children who like to help with wood it is no longer a chore, but more of a mediation and stress reliever, as well as a source of satisfaction.

    Winter........a shrinking woodpile.

    Summer..........a slowly growing woodpile.

But the real question here is: "Bark up or down?"

I actually asked that question of a wood guru that has his own website in an email about twenty years ago. My theory was if the pile was covered that the wood would probably aspire better if the bark was down.
His reply was something along the lines of "I don't have time for this crap"...LOL
