Filled the boiler 2/3 full of hedge and black locust tonight. Should be good for 24 hours even though we're now supposed to be on the wrong side of 0 tonight.
12 here. 74 inside. Down to -5 tonight. Loaded stove with ash and sugar maple. I’ll probably top the stove off with oak before bed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't understand why you have to run the furnace to take ashes out, I just rake the coals to the back, shovel a few scoops into a metal bucket, rake back, load wood, easy, peasy.
I agree, You don't need to, or want to get all of the ashes out. Just enough and get it going again. One does need to have a proper ash bucket though, a metal one with a lid is a huge help.
30 right now but it was 60 6hrs ago. New just said wind chill is already 17.. it will be single digits by sun up. Hearth is loaded with 100% locust. I fired stove up at 4pm.. im letting it run full blast with some cherry and oak uglies.
Yes I suppose a lid would be helpful, I just have a galvanized metal bucket from TSC. Had to buy a new one last year as the mrs took a liking to the old one for a decoration.
Monday mornings I have to open up. Stove will be very warm at 4a.m. when I leave. To much noise doesn't go a long way with 3 females that early. Also it upsets Floyd and he wakes up the females if I don't. S'all good in my book.
Whatever you are comfortable with and have to do is cool, just commenting because every once in a while I see someone mention having to let the stove cool down or let it go out to remove ashes. Carry on good sir.
Things round here gettin' kinda weird when we're all housebound. ..40 here by Wednesday ...not so much tonight here on the north coast
I’m not sure what the wind chill is here but it is nasty out there. The temp on the back porch thermometer right now is -12. The wind is howling. I am going through some firewood!
Current temp -1°F heading down to -8°F with a wind chill of -25°F possible. Still getting scattered snow bands & burning all birch here. Indoor temp 73°F. Took a few pictures of the moon with the stack in front of it. Start of the lunar eclipse in about a half hour. Should be full blood red after 11pm tonight.
Just hit the big goose egg here. -10 or there abouts they say. Nice clear night, wind has dropped off. Boiler loaded with Oak & Ash. I really expected it to use more wood than it has. I made one extra load yesterday that turned out to be unnecessary, nice toasty 75 inside so I'm happy.
The weather gods have looked down on men in favor. Was supposed to be-19 this morning it’s -1. Will take the fake weather
Locust is the fuel of choice tonight. Only running two splits, but both are long 21+ inches and thick ....only fit at an angle. Still, clear, and around 1 degree. I think we may have already bottomed out for the night.
Wind Chill -18°F (-28°C) Right now They say Low -6 °F tonight Ash in the box right now , oak ash n hickory on deck House is warm
