I've been burning the GS NE blend here for a week or so , they seem to be working fine for me , we'll put them to the test tonight when we hit negative digits :shiver::shiver::shiver:

My stove can’t handle what’s forecasted temperature wise on its own. Will be enlisting the oil furnace for assistance.

    Me too-with a Harman.
1 stove in the basement isnt gonna do it for a cape. Some oil heat but not much.
If I add another stove to the first floor, we'd be good for all 3 levels.

Ive always used 2 fans. One small one in a vent cut into the 1st level floor to get some heat up from the basement. I keep the door to the basement off and have a fan partway down the stairs pointing towards the stove trying to use that as a cold air return.

A month ago I tried turning off the fan in the stairway and seem to have better and more even heat upstairs

You need to do that - I only burn propane for DHW, as back up heat in case something happens to a stove or if I'm gone too long from the house (only during vacations).

I just turned on the ThermGuard so that the boiler will run 3x in a 24 hour period, for 10 minutes each time. That will keep the FHW pipes from freezing during the negative temps and high winds that are supposed to be here in the not-to-distant future.

The fans can be tricky to get just right for optimum results. Then if you changes something, you have to find a new system.

I always thought the fan on the stairs was working as planned for a cold air return because when I turn it on, I can feel cool air in the stairs area that isnt there when its off (stairs are open and not walled off). Never even thought of trying without it until a month ago. So far the results are good

That fan may have been circulating the cooler air from the other side of the basement and not bringing it down from the 1st floor like I thought it was.

Done Done and Done the refreshments have been served and time to relax and get ready for the game. Should have seen me Multi-tasking blowing snow and leaves with one machine the Ariens :) actually finally started to warm up and has made it to 20* but should be dropping soon. Got all the snow out of the way and the stove upstairs cleaned to the Max , tomorrow since I don't have to work Ill do the same to the cellar stove the poor P43.

Seeing I have been home to take care of funneling have been running straight T&D softies which are ok in a sense they burn hotter than the Okie plats and leave less than half the ash if that.
Heck gonna give the poor P43 some lovin and throw a bag of Matra's in the hopper to keep the pipes from freezing this evening.
Now as Will would require its time for some refreshments hope everyone gets the snow crap outta the way and has a good time chillin and watching the game !

Finished the outdoor clean-up at about 2 PM. Had to throw an extra helping of ice-melter down on the driveway so hopefully it will all be melted & clear by Wed. morning when the movers are supposed to be here. Sn*wblower had a little problem getting going with that hard ice crust, but actually did pretty well for just 5.5 HP.
Enjoying a nice cup of Columbian coffee now. :coffee:

Finished cleanup and like luney my ariens did a bit of leaf blowing ! Puttered with generator and I think I will be ok if power goes out. And like earl my oil monster will fire up to keep one bedroom and bath at 67* . Should only come on a few times during the night if it gets in single digits. No worries about freezing pipes. Older son coming over for dinner, gonna play with grandboy and watch football. All good. :D

Back in just in time for the game. The one year old Doughblower wouldn’t fire up, even with the A/C starter. I had to let it rest a bit as the circuit breaker kicked off on the starter. When I got it going, progress was slow going. Seven three foot drifts across the main drive. The dry snow was fairly compact and it took about half an hour to make one pass to the end of the driveway. The wind was relentlessly blowing the snow as it came out of the shoot.

I carried in some more wood, as I had started the wood stove this AM. Nothing like coming in from the cold and standing next to a warm wood stove! Now I’m ready for a cold beverage.

You can have those 3 foot drifts and 1/2 hour single passes :hair:

Kinda disappointed. Maybe 4 or 5 inches. Mostly sleet. No power worries and other than a broken shear pine, the little Ariens worked as designed. The Bay is running on #2 and it's 68 in here. Temp has risen from 18 to 24 degrees in the last couple of hours. Now it's time for steak on the grill and football.
