Me personally if I was in the market for a new pickup I would go with the 8' bed. On the other hand I can see people wanting a sporty looking shortbed or have garage length issues or some people prolly just don't care and will never utilize an 8' so they take what's on the lot.
My parts supplier just bought a brand new F250 4 door with 8'bed. I asked where in hells tarnation did he even find an 8'!!!!????

I need an extended cab to haul kids...and an 8' bed extended cab won't fit in the garage.

Crew cab with an 8' bed is a land barge.

Yes sir it is. My old 96 F250 7.3 cab and 1/2 longbox is a freaking boat. It'll haul 2 people 2 dogs, 3 days worth of gear 6 saws & all the equipment + the dump trailer. Everything thing can be locked up & still have room if I find some treasure at a yard sale. It has a purpose, & it ain't daily driver lol.

I just kicked the tires on an '18 Sierra 1500 Denali 6.2 gasser last week, glanced at a 2500 dmax SLT package - $68k new with discounts.
I'd have to drive a but ton of miles and fill it from the dyed 2.5million gallon tank at work for a long time to justify the diesel.

    FWIW - just bought 345kgal for $1.79/gal

just a drop in the bucket - last January burned 2.4Mgal
Gas turbine mileage varies -8300gal/hr -14500 gal/hr....135-240gpm, but enough electricity to power 6-700k homes under peak energy demands

The Ford gets better mpg than the ecodiesel, especially in 2wd version. Plus the ecodiesel has ones that are reprogrammed from the dating, and some are not reprogrammed.

IDK, the idea of a light duty Half ton diesel makes zero sense to me. Either get a diesel and tow that stuff that literally nothing else that can fit in a normal sized garage can tow, or get a gas vehicle. Once you get into something that big/ heavy, it doesn't even tested for emissions.

Yeah, I think that could be very interesting.

A joint venture on the next midsized ranger and probably the amarok, as well as vans. I'm sure they'll do even more than that.

That's me with the short garage. I can't even get a 6.5' bed on a full size crew cab in my garage. The 5.5' bed will just fit. I'd get a 6.5 bed on the crew cab if I could.

TBH, I'm more of a beat and load the trailer guy than putting heavy and dirty stuff in the bed. I've loaded up some 3/4 and 1 ton 8' pickup beds over the years though.

A lot of people don’t need diesel trucks, that includes me. I could get by with less truck and still get the job done. It might take multiple trips or other sacrifices but I could do it. I could get by with less truck, less house, less beer, less guns and less land. I really enjoy the opportunity to play with whichever truck I choose. Sometimes It isn’t about the number crunching and the logic, sometimes it’s about opportunities and availability to have fun. If you are having a great time and are taking care of your families needs and still contribute to society in a positive way then run what you want to run.
.....I was just joking about the beer.
