About 24°F / -4.4°C, light overcast, calm, but it's supposed to cool off tomorrow. Burning the toughest DED Elm yet. I should have cut a wider wedge, as it went over a bit, but wouldn't break a 1/2" of holding wood. I ran a plunge cut up the middle as I had to steer it clear of trees on either side, hammered in a plastic wedge and the wedge broke in two when the tree finally went over. Splitting it was another story but I can't complain about the heat.
Temps have been keeping the bugs away for the time being. Was a chilly weekend, I did some square grinding.
15 feels like 6, 75 inside on coals. A high of 30 is predicted but they said high 20’s yesterday and we got to 22 so who knows. Looks like the weekend storm is anyone’s guess at this point. Now it might be a big freezing rain event. Oh joy! I don’t even want to think about that. We still have broken tree tops all around us from the ice storm of ‘98. No power for 10 days in January isn’t fun at all.
Current temp 2°F heading up to 26°F today for a high. Burning all birch They keep added more snow for the weekend storm, 20"+now.
That’s what I’m hoping for instead of any kinda mix. I’d rather get 36” of snow, we can deal with that a lot easier.
Morning ya'll, 13 here and plenty of coals for the splits of Bitternut Hickory, Sugar maple, Apple, & Oak that are toasting up nicely as we speak.
They are talking rain down here, but with cold air close it could turn to ice. I'm going to take advantage of the mild temps the next two days to get more wood in the house. Up until now I've had dry ground to push the wheelbarrow from the woodshed to the bulkhead, but I can't do that on ice.
Do it while you can! It’s been all icy around here for awhile. Great for pond hockey but not much else.
23* outside and a stove full of red oak. Living room temp is 77* Big difference this year in wood quality (2 year seasoned hardwood after being at this house for 2 years vs last winter's 9 month seasoned pine) and house temps (after beefing up the attic insulation).
22*.....70* is.....locust n oak hammerin away....maybe couple inches of snow thurs. night into friday mornin .....then a mixed bag of chit sat. into sun. Calling for single digit monday night....polar vortex is a comin....
These "little angels" got me up at 5am. Was 28 and 75. Burned some coals and then reloaded with sugar and walnut. The shop was cozy for the cats and I added some sugar and hickory.
Just wait till it's time to take them to the water in the summer, they love to swim like no other dog. Well, there are a few other breeds that love the water.
19 and bitter this AM and just enough coals to get a small load of pine cooking. Load of pine and oak before off to work......
It appears the cold has rolled back in. It was only a few degrees below freezing last night but then the wind kicked up to 25-45 mph for a bit. Poplar n furnace this morning to make mrswoodburner toasty.
-6 this morning. I called woodstock and Mike is sending a new door gasket for our AS. great company, not going to charge us, as we bought the AS recently.
