Here we are nearly 3rd week of January 2019, and it's looking like we will have a snowless winter. We had snow in Fall....but winter is feeling much like a late fall or early spring.

We were watching DW Friday night and it seems Bavaria has received a year's worth of snow in two days. Why, Germany, why did you take my snow?

He might have stolen such winter magic, having set up that contest. Not sure if we’ll hear the end of it.

I was getting disappointed, maybe a little let down, but now I am adjusting, and coming to start to kind of like this winter.

On the one hand the snow we have is looking spotty/dingy and the bigger lakes are just now getting drivable.

On the other hand we have ample beauty and snow up north, my truck is clean more than 1/2 a day after I wash it, and the wood stocks are still strong and will be growing stronger soon.

So far since last Summer we have only had a dusting that looked more like frost.
Some of out biggest dumps of snow can be in Feb and March .
We've had rain and the swamp is at high water so getting in at some maple is not happening. It takes quite a few weeks of cold to freeze swamp water enough to walk on it safely unlike the lake across the street.

Only good news here is that the ground's finally frozen up. Supposed to stay cold for a while now. I can finally start skidding.

I live in Bavaria and am reminded of the Bostonian winters - we can send some snow over, there is plenty ;-)
But seriously, it is getting scary and there is no end in sight.
Luckily we have wood backup heat with a little help from FHC on how to do this properly. Big thanks to all of you guys. Stay warm !

Stay safe! No snow in Cambridge at all, bicyclists zipping around as usual. The Charles is barely frozen.

More snow is better for keeping warm.
I recall one winter in W.Mass. we got a big snow early before the first hard frost, then it got cold and the ground stayed covered until spring. When the snow finally melted away in the yard, everything was still green underneath and even some annuals just started, or continued, to grow.

Yeah, Mid February seems to be the magic time in the North East when we have a "snowless" winter. Usually get one or two storms that make up for it.

Anything less than a foot in NH is just " flurries". It's winter and I expect snow and love it, bring it on! As billb3 said, up here in Jan. we don't usually get that much. Feb/March is when it comes hot and heavy. I have posted pics in the past showing the white gold that drives NH's economy this time of year.
