It felt good to get out in the woods for the first time in 2019. Temperatures were in the upper 20's and virtually no wind. I cut, split & stacked 2 tractor loads this afternoon. There is at least another load blocked up and ready to split. ash1.jpg ash.jpg

looks like a satisfying day. Makes me want to get out there and do some of that but I have to wait...too much snow up in our woods now. It will be late April for me.

Almost makes me want to cut down the ash in our yard here at home. Our neighbor's tree got the bug so I suppose it is just a matter of time.

If you're neighbors tree had it, yours does too.

We haven't had any EAB kills in our area so far. But I am selecting against ash when I cut now. Plus it splits so nice!

I will watch it, and when the time comes, it won't go to waste at least.

The good news is that ash will still last a long time after being hit by the bugs. We started cutting in 2002 when we saw the first tree damaged with the eab. Still cutting but close to the end now. Some of it is now too far gone but still have some good ones. I have 2 that I plan on getting out this afternoon.

Dennis - so far no EAB mortality in my area of NE Wisconsin, but it is only a matter of time. That is why I am making an effort to target ash for the past couple years. My woodlot has a pretty high component of white ash - it will be a sad day when it starts dying.

I hear you Woody. Just came in from cutting a few logs. It almost makes me cry to see our woods. But, hopefully some other trees will come up to replace the ash plus we have a very few small ones that the borer did not get.

I sure hope it doesn't happen. Almost all the Ash down here is dead or dying. Most of my wood this year and the next 3 years will be Ash.

I cut down 2 ash that had the identical markings in the center the other day, in fact i could mix it with your rounds and you'd never know the difference, i live in the PNW and even though they say there is no bugs here, i feel they are dreaming.
