Any members have info on this new mill? Hearing rumors a local store has some product on hand. Might have to stop in and give them a try! Wood Bioenergy » T&D Wood Energy Plans Wood Pellet Mill In Maine
Last name of Wood? I wonder what they did with the 802 plant? If the equipment is still there or sold off.
T&D was awarded a federal grant to go into the pellet processing industry,in 9/18.Now way they are producing, but,I have been wrong before. Also appears they will be producing pellets from, scrap from milling companies, that produce lumber, which means they will have dirty pellets(great for power plants, not for home heating).Looks to me like another startup, that will sell out to a major corporation,in a year or 2.But,I have been wrong before.
This new Mill didn't happen to go in the same location as that Pine Tree mill that never materialized?
No, different location. Unfortunately, I don’t think that Pine Tree mill ever got off the ground. I’m going to grab a few bags on Monday and will report back after I get to burn some. They are 100% softwood from what I hear. Based on a post I saw in another thread, it sounds like Luney picked some up as well.
Got a few bags from the new mill. These came from Robbins. A few things noticed right away. The bags are plain white with no pictures or words written on them. In fact, the only thing written is a date code of 10/18 stamped at the bag seam where you would normally see it. There are two distinctly different colored pellets in the bag. Some dark, some light. The sniff test says these are mostly, if not all softwood. I am finding a lot of little bits and pieces in the bag. Like large "fines". It's as if the pellets are falling apart. Anyway, plan to burn these in the next couple days and will report back. Based on the small bits, I'm anticipating a fireworks show in the stove.
They don't look too bad TT, that in-bag pic looks like a holiday Turkey though - with the white and dark shading.
Put a couple bags of T & D in the P68 this weekend. Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. Very little ash. No fireworks show, as I had anticipated. I do hope they work on the durability issue so there are more whole pellets in the bag and less bits and pieces. If I had to compare these to a brand I've burned previously, I would say they are very close (nearly identical) to the last batch of EZB softies I got from artc, right down to the multi-colored pellets in the bag (some dark, some light). Interesting since these and EZBs come from different parts of the country, but they must use a similar / same species fiber source, regardless. Note: these will funnel in the hopper, like some other pine pellets do. No big deal, but something to be aware of. Also, did not get any green pellets like Luneyburg did.
