I have heard both arguments about burning black walnut but have had absolutely no experience with it.

The cpros of burning such a hardwood would be obvious, but just what are the cons of burning it? Or is it all in the processing?

I have almost a cord of it seasoning. I haven’t burnt much walnut but processes pretty easy. It keeps surprisingly well dead in the woods. Very little rot on a tree that had been dead so long the smallest branch still attached was 6” diameter. The biggest complaint I hear is it leaves a lot of ashes. IMHO what shoulder wood doesn’t ?

I've heard negative things from ppl in other states. but Everyone around me absolutely loves it. they say it burns super hot. so maybe its a different kind of black walnut in different places? or maybe some ppl just try burning wet, green or half punky wood? idk?

I burned walnut several years ago and didnt like it. I got access to an almost unlimited supply of walnut tops 2 years ago on property adjoining mine. I've been cherry picking the oak and hickory but cut some of the walnut and moister meter said it was ready this year. I've been burning it for day wood and I'm very satisfied, burns hot and leaves a powdery ash. Its dirty though and pretty messy.

It didn't feel bad in the sun. The temp read 24°. I guess I can stand it. IMG_20190112_55664.jpg IMG_20190112_2224.jpg
The rack was about a third full before I stacked today's stuff on it.
