    Surprised this wasn't started before.

I've got some b/a chicken breasts on old smokey as I type. Sipping on some sunny d with frozen mango chunks for ice cubes.

Does my open keyhole pit count as a wood-fired grille? If so, I have CHITLOADS of pictures.........

If you are grilling on it with wood, it would be hard to discount!

I quit using my grill around 10 years ago, and around 3 years ago traded that dusty musty old thing for a flat bottom jon boat....now the jon boat just sits around and collects leaves and debris....

We cook on the pit at least once or twice a week, more in the summertime......I'll dig up some pics.....

Grilling: a form of cooking that involves dry heat applied to the surface of food, commonly from above or below.

Grilled pork loin over a soaked cherry plank. Basic paprika, brown sugar, onion powder, salt and pepper rub. Cooked to 145 degrees. Just a touch of pink as it should be. Good thread Grizz.

I guess this is one thread that I won't be contributing much to. Wieners on sticks and potatoes wrapped in foil in a can are about the extent of my grilling over a fire experience.

Everything so far looks very, very good.

Nothing wood grilled here. ( with a few exceptions.) I BBQ with wood quite often though.

I use a stainless steel washing machine tub from a front-loader with grill grate on top of it. They are great for cooking steaks because you can get them SUPER hot. The air intake through the holes on the sides, along with the taper at the top that compresses the gasses as they exit keeps smoke to near zero. The tub itself blocks most of the radiant heat so they are great for summertime grilling.

I've had a couple different ones. This was the first. Great fire pit but too tall for cooking. They look really cool at night.

This is my newest one. It is quite a bit shorter and works great for cooking. The opening is pretty small some I'm going to whittle it down a little with the plasma cutter.

I cook over the fire and I have a wood pellet grill, both are great for different things. Steaks and burgers I prefer to cook over the fire pit, but larger cuts and chicken/turkey are much better in the pellet grill. Here's a pic of elk burgers on the firepit.

Cool idea. I have two pieces of perforated stainless from a natural gas coalescing filter - was planning on doing something similar

You guys have seen mine before, but I'll throw it in this thread too.... Usually smoke on it, but it grills just as well. Here's some rainy day cooking....

NW Walker I have seen your rocket mass heater videos! How is it holding up? I really am interested in those and would love to have room and what not to put one in.

Thanks man! Still loving them, and this one and my indoor heater are both holding up great. I'm frankly surprised this outdoor one made it through the winter without tearing itself apart, at least the tile parts, but it's doing great. I've got some hocks and bacon getting prepped to go on it tomorrow as we speak!
