Here's what "winter" looks like in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky this year. Amazing what a lot of rain and temperatures in the upper forties to the low sixties will do in a week's time. Daffodils in early January? That just ain't right!

Lots of snowblowers out front at the box stores that are not selling. Patio furniture displays should be going out soon...

I think we just sold our first pallet of rock salt today. Winter is here at the moment, if only temporary. Need a good solid two weeks of highs in the mid twenties now with single digit overnight lows.

The winter here has been mild. A couple two three days of cold, them back to mild. Repeat.

It is normal for us to have bulbs popping up out of the ground anytime soon. Soon or later, they get a quick cover of snow and then it goes away. We might even have to mow the lawn in February if the grass gets dry enough.

Wow, this is amazing. Will we pay dearly for this warm weather? Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

I remember one of the first years we went to Arizona for the winter and they kept telling me how warm it was back home. A strange winter. That was in the late 90's.

As for snow, we have not had much snow at all for the last 3 or 4 winter's.

I will call it a good winter. Yes it has been below zero air temp and pushed -40 wind chill for a couple days, but have only had about a foot of snow that has stuck around. 2 years ago it was already 6 feet of snow and weeks below zero. Very fortunate this year and quickly correct anyone I hear whining about winter this year!

Is there any snow on the UP, Savage? A buddy & I have been thinking of coming up for a sledding trip. Doesn't work so well without snow though.

I think our YTD snowfall right now is just over 80" according to a local radio station.

We have about a foot of snow on the ground. Temps fluctuate between a few days around freezing and then a couple of days of frigid weather most of the time with high winds. The snow mobile trail across the road from us has been really busy since Xmas. A lot of people trailering in from southern ontario where the snow is virtually non existent. Burning 24/7 since mid October, I have gone thru a little over 2 cord.

So how are the sled trails? When I looked into it before Christmas, it did not look good.

We are having a full on drought this "winter".
Had to water trees and roses w/city water yesterday.
My aspen trees have felt on them....ready to pop.
    Way too early.
Got clipped by a polar front a week ago. Temps went down
to single digits for a couple of days. Today, we are getting
some slushy rain coming. Bring it....ever drop.
Sure has made for great bike riding, though.

i'm not convinced that the cold ( a few degrees either way) has any real effect on ticks. we have ticks bad here.

TurboDiesel .. up here we have a couple good weeks of -10 or lower it really seems to help keep them under control. Especially ticks.. there's a certain type that does well in the cold but most only survive if they're on an animal

    That makes sense, Lyle.
we're lucky to get 6 nights a year in single digits or less. We might see minus single digits once or twice a year...
maybe a minus teens once every few years...
    :salute:
