7f feels cooler burning oak slabs ..I posted latest polar vortex tracking here looks like cool down starts on 15th or 16th . Tok AK. that's some crazy cold . Polar vortex of 2014 was enough for me weeks just below 0f and went thru twice the wood . Sent from my LGL84VL using Tapatalk
20f here, burning down last night's coals of hickory, oak and locust, more of the same ready for the day. 2 inches of snow overnight, calling for the teens tonight.
Finally getting below freezing for a change. 16 right now as I have coffee . 3 to 4 inches of snow predicted for the weekend and people are gnashing and lamenting already. Split some rounds last night from some tree tops I cut up Sunday. Little maple and locust will be going in the boiler soon.
Currently 22 degrees 20 mph winds blowing snow off lake limited visability.. Aka winter. Does anyone else feel silly posting cold temps after Rope
Nope, well Maybe a little. It was a beautiful day here today got some stacking done in the sunshine. And watched a Sikorsky S-61 returning to fill up after water bombing a nearby bushfire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
17 outside this morning and it looks like the wind has quit. Haven't ventured out to the boiler yet, but the water temp is still plenty warm.
Ha ha ha! Kinda whats the point, no? 14 this morning. Plow made two passes this morning, I shoveled three times yesterday with the last time being just before bed. It looks like only an inch or so since that last shoveling, so I may be good today!
31 feels like 22 this morning, 76 inside and I just loaded up with mixed KD. I cleaned up about 4” of pure slop with the bucket early yesterday afternoon and then we got a 1/2” dusting and it’s icy everywhere this morning. The wind is picking up and the temperature is dropping today and we’re headed for zero or below Friday through Monday but no storms in sight here for a week or so woo hoo! Got another cord of KD being delivered tomorrow to bring in over the weekend. That will get us through in conjunction with about a cord of dry beech and pine I have stacked under cover. At this point it’s looking like a 3 1/2 to 4 cord winter, just as expected. That’s right in line with our previous pellet usage, slightly less actually, so I’m really happy with that. The difference is we’re keeping it closer to 80 in here instead of 70, so I’d say the efficiency is considerably higher based on that. I could’ve burned at least half a cord less at 70. This Fireview rocks!
For today’s happiness, have fun at work day. We are going through wood pretty well right now. Probably a cord in the last 10 days.
I burned down the coals this morning when I woke up to 17 outside. I reloaded with 3 walnut splits, the walnut doesn't last like hickory but burns hot, I'm becoming a fan of it and have a lot of walnut tops on the adjoining property. It's up to 23 now with a high predicted of 32, I'll probably work in the shop today.
Starting to get colder in central Indiana for sure. It’s kind of nice not throttling the stove down, but letting her eat! She’s been on a diet of ash, walnut, and hackberry for the most part. I moved in some 3yr old hickory and honey locust to give it a run tonight.
The OWB sure has had a nice break this winter so far. Only a few days that were cold. Of course, there's a lot less demand for heat in the house when the wind isn't blowing.
After basking in the 60's and 70's over the weekend and early this week, I'm back to reality. Not super cold but 50 degrees lower makes you feel it, especially with wind out there. I see snow forecast for south of us this weekend but nothing forecast for us at all.
Sitting at -15 C or 5 F for the time being. It says 10 mph wind, but it's almost dead calm out there so at least the forecasters are wrong the right way for once. Poplar chugging away. Floors extra warm from the snow.
24 here and loving it. I need some frost in the ground to get some wood out of my neighbors pasture. Burning some red oak. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
20 °F now , they say Low tonight 12 °F if they are right it will be coldest day this year, I guess, I better go bring some Hickory up in here to add to the ash
And risk a lawsuit when a kid falls from pushing and sprains his fat? I remember all the kids trying to get set up over the wheels for traction. Jump out and push to swing the bus back into the road once or twice.. Nowadays the little unicorns need a stick and a shout to tell them when its safe to cross the street.. When there's not another car for a mile! All I'm saying is either chain the wheels, or wait until the plow comes... Or don't give a tardy slip when the bus is an hour late!
