Backwoods Savage lately? I haven’t seen any posts from him for a few days, just hoping he’s doing alright.
Howdy Y'all. Thanks for the concern. Yes, as Dave stated, I was deer hunting in Mississippi and also visiting with some great friends. They have a cabin in the Homochito National Forest (SW MS). Good friends; great food; not so good hunting this year or so everyone down there told me. I did see only one shooter buck; no hogs. The buck was not where expected (not unusual for sure). I was watching over a food plot but for some reason turned the other way to look down a narrow lane and there he stood. I thought it was a young doe. My natural reflex was to look through the binoculars. He was from 150-200 yards out and it shocked me to see the antlers when I looked through the binoculars. Of course, he was on a narrow lane and by the time I got the rifle up, he was gone. Such is hunting. Saw some small deer too. One spike horned buck kept coming back wanting to be shot but I only watched him. Was hoping to get a hog or three but none showed. Really ate well while there! Frog legs. Fried fish, etc, etc. Lots and lots of meats. We had cook-outs because it was so warm. 74 the last 2 days I was there. 77 the day I left. It was 57 Tuesday morning when we got up around 5:00 so I could leave early. Wow! Then today reality set in once more, especially as I drove into MI on I-69. Heavy snow and limited visibility for a while until I got further north then ran right out of the snow. Basically none here at home except to see there was a dusting overnight. Happy to be home again.
Good to see you back around Backwoods Savage Sorry about the lack of luck with the hunt but it's always nice to visit with some far away friends. Especially when they feed you so well

For sure Jack Straw. I also know how to pick good friends. Some of them even put me up for the night! We should do that more often. I highly suggest you move further west.
So many people slow down when they get older. That’s my biggest fear with retirement. You just keep on keeping on!
I thought that Backwoods Savage was kidnapped! No....really! The kidnappers sent a piece of his finger to the ornery one demanding a huge ransom for his safe return. The ornery replied asking for more proof!!
Sounds like a great trip! Quality time with friends and loved ones, what could be better! Glad to have you back safe and sound Dennis, and I’m sure Judy is too.
One thing that really made me laugh on this trip. I had to buy a MS hunting license, of course. Went into a Walmart to buy one. Had to search for the guy who ran that department. When I found him he wanted to know what I needed so I told him. The funny part is, the first thing he said was, "You have to be from Michigan as you sound like you came right from the UP!" All I had said was I needed a deer license! Makes me wonder if that guy was yooperdave's brother or something.
