I know the LBT...But being afraid of climbing to the top of the chimney (I know), I was wondering if anyone cleans their pipe from the bottom with a lint eater. If you do, how do you prevent the soot from getting all over your house?? The last 2 years, I paid someone to do it, but the wife says she's not sure if he cleans the pipe, seems like he justs cleans the stove. Thanks for any/all tips, photos and explanations!!

Assuming you have a 90 deg cleanout and up? Go up through the clean out T with a linteater or sooteater if you need more rods. Your gonna get ash on the floor but if you keep the shopvac handy you can minimize the mess by sucking while rootering.

I like the soot eater, but it says it cleans pipes 5" to 18"...Will it work on 4"??

Ahhh, missed that you have an insert. How far out does your setup allow it to move for cleaning? If you can get behind the insert with the flex removed from the stove, it should be rather easy to clean with a lint eater. The key here will be getting behind the stove to to the work.

Sooteater as a contact us tab. If no one here has used this on 4", I would use that and ask the company about 4" letting them know your exact setup. I'm thinking that with the "trimmable whip" might not work as effectively if cut too short?

I can get it out far enough to work behind it, I just have to see how far up the flex tube connection is

Maybe contact Louseyweather to check in on this thread to see what his guys do for this setup? It would be helpful for the FHC site to get his opinion in open forum.

There is a wood stove soot-eater and a pellet stove soot-eater. Get the pellet stove soot Eater, or get a Lint Eater.

I prefer the lint-eater. And an LBT ;)

Me too. The vacuum adapter fits 4" pipe cleanout T perfectly

Honestly unless your pellet stove is burning TERRIBLY dirty you can usually just bang on the pipe and let it all drop down if it's a vertical run. IME even a pellet stove burning dirty enough to let creosote/soot build up in a burnable state won't run for much longer. I could be wrong but this is my experience and I've been messing with stoves for over 12 years as my career. Usually the ash at the bottom of the tee is the most you will find in a pellet vent system, aside from what is inside the stove of course.

True, a vert. install would allow for that, but I still think a good "scrubbing" w/ a brush or lint eater brush helps. These pipes, especially the 3" ones, don't need much of an accumulation on the inner walls to reduce flow. Less of an issue with 4" pipe, but if the cleanout T is easily accessible, and in Eatonpcat's situation the flex pipe, I'd still do it a couple times a winter and in the spring during final clean-up.
