Wait an hour after lunch before you could swim.

Station Wagon pic is the best. Try to keep it short...
I’m one of 5, so there were 7 in the wagon going to family events.
My mother is from Boise, and her mother moved to So. Cal.
We lived here in Central Mass.
Twice, once in a red Torino and again in beauty LTD, 8 of us made the trip to Boise to visit Great Grandma and Aunts/Uncles/Cousins in Idaho and then to Cali and then back to Mass.
Seems crazy now. But it was what it was then.
    # 8 was my older sisters got to take a friend.
I’m not 1/2 the parent mine were.

Ok you car buffs. What year?[IMG] 61?
Mom and dad had a, I believe, 64 and the rear looked similar.

One of 6 here. My mother didn't drive when we were young. She was home with us and eventually got her drivers license at age 41, a year after my youngest brother was born. My father ran the family around, including trips from MN to FLA, Yellowstone, ect. in a 70s Ford LTD station wagon.

Around town we were in either in the back of that vehicle laying down looking out through the windows at stars at night, or playing around from the back seat to the cargo area...no seat belts. My dad also smoked a pipe in the car. We liked the smell without a care about second hand smoke. It was what it was. No bike helmets either. A lot of things are different now.

    I'm thinking more like 1962.

1962 was my first thought but the rounded fenders around the outside lights kind of fooled me a little so I decided to back it up a year.
Those were the days. The dealership would get the new model year in a couple of days before the reveal date, keep it covered and advertisements would hype the reveal . Everyone was anxious to see what the new model year was and went to the dealership to see it.
I remember, in Cub Scouts, there was a requirement to identify the year and make of a car to advance. Now a days all model years look the same for each brand. Doesn't really matter if I have a brand new car or it is 4 years old. Nobody knows. Can't tell the difference except for my payments.

    I remember hearing that.
A couple of Mom's dinner table quotes:
"Clean your plate. Your going to sit there until you do." Mom is now 92, doesn't have much of an appetite and living with us. I use that on her now. "You use to say it us."
"Clean your plate. Kids in China are starving." Now my sister has a pretty sharp wit and I remember one of her responds that made mom mad. "Put my plate in a box and mail it to them.".

My mom would cut stencils for the mimeograph and my dad would operate the mimeograph. For those who remember manual typewriters, the white color selector was used to cut stencils. The other colors were black and red and they utilized the typewriter ribbon.

Good for your parents. If the nearby cell towers go down, all they will have is the landline. I have seen it happen up in the Minneapolis area. I don't have cell service here so a land line is a must have item.

I remember seeing these in my great grandparents house years ago, when I was little I always thought they were lights that were just never on.

Candy bars, 5-paks of gum, bags of chips, ice cream treats (fudge bars/ice cream bars/popsicle/stuff like that) were all 5 cents. Bottle of pop (soda) was 10 cents.

Had a set of those lawn darts also..."jarts" I believe.

Juke box songs were 5 cents each......3 for 10 cents.....a quarter got you 7 or 8 I think.

Pin ball 10 cents 3 games for a quarter, pool table a quarter but these both were late 60's prices.

Discovered electricity with an outlet and a fork at probably 3 years old............

Also learned at an early age that dentists are absolutely no fun and every effort should be exercised to avoid all trips to pre-mentioned former nazi torture offices! Growing up we never had $$ for pain free dentistry. Something I made sure my children would never experience!

Absolutely true regarding dentists and the improvements. I have a root canal and a crown done several years ago-I swear it was less pain than an exam done in the 1970s! Didn't go to a dentist between 12 and 22 years of age due to previous bad experiences.
