Weather guessers got it wrong again, nice knowing our highs and lows are the same, easier to remember. And the advisory for interior Alaska which is the size of 2/3 of the lower 48 only mention one town for being cold. Does anyone hear the song from Montgomery Gentry. “My Town”. 4F55682B-A4E5-4329-9732-242006272E12.png 8ADD311E-B5BA-4102-B64E-581B9795A36F.png

Wow!~ -45F & forecast to get to +45 here tomorrow. ~ 90 degree temp difference, that is a bit hard to wrap my head around. I know the misery of +90, but I'm trying to imagine what that -45 to + 45 would feel like. 33F here now with the wind kicking up, warm & rain tomorrow. They predicted upper 20's & teens for lows starting Wednesday like it was the coming of the apocalypse lol. Threw some Elm & Popple in the boiler. Maybe the ground will firm up a bit.

I stepped away for a bit and missed hundreds of posts on this thread lol. Hope youve all been doing well. El Nino is making the southern Canadian Rockies mild, mild, mild. Weve been ranging lately highs 1c lows of -10c. Not enough to thaw ground or lakes but mild enough to make for some icy roads. At least Im not dealing with mud or bare ground like some of you. The stove is loaded with doug fir. Hope you all had a good Christmas season. @saskburner, Rope youve been clocking some cold temps!

A very nice day and currently -7 C feels -13 C or 20 F feels 9 F, and about 4" of snow since dinner time. Lazy fire going.

Was wondering where you disappeared, glad you're back. And yes, a few really cold days in my neck of the woods, but could be worse.

Your lakes must be easily driveable now hey? We get to that point here but not so much during El Nino winters. With our mild weather I wasnt sure how the ice would be so my son and I headed out the other day. Its hard to guess when we have temps of -18c/0f and then days where it breaks the freezing mark. The best way to figure it out is to go out and see what you find. We headed out and found clear black ice of about 6 inches which is fine by me for walking on (I do less but not with my kids). We had hopes of catching rainbow trout which I wanted to smoke and give to friends for New years eve but we had the often feared of skunk following us around the lake.... Thats ok we had some good father son time and some great scenery. Planning our next trip is turning out to be fun.

Hey thanks Sask! You do get the cold weather over there.... Not much of a snow pack either Im guessing. How deep are your services? Im not sure about the rest of BC but in our region services have to buried down 4 feet which doesnt seem deep enough. Im pretty sure were the coldest part of southern BC for the most part. We get -35c/-31f or better here on occasion but folks dont have to worry about house services much since we get lots of snow to insulate the ground. When we get the real cold weather and no snow thats when we have problems.

Just find a restaurant that has a -30° blast freezer and walk into it. That's warmer than our outside ambient temp.

We had a nice day yesterday with highs in the mid 50's. I emptied both stoves after let them burn out. I didn't re-fire as the prediction was for a low in the high 40's. I woke up to 49 outside and burning propane. Suppose to be warm all day with rain and wind coming in this afternoon.

Stayed windy all night...kept on waking me up!

The 4-8 inches we were gonna get just isn't there. We got some, but I'm thinking its more like 2 maybe three. I have to wait ukntil daylight and shovel time for sure.

Now the east end of the U.P. is a different matter. TV station says they'll be getting over 8" throughout the day.

Oh yeah, mid 30's for a high today.

15 feels like 2 and still windy. Thought we might blow away yesterday and it was cold! Supposed to hit 25 today with diminishing winds. I just reloaded with KD mixed hardwood. Looks like 2 messy storms back to back tomorrow and Wednesday. 4-6” tomorrow ending as sleet and rain, then rain changing back to snow and another 3-4” Wednesday. :hair::headbang: Then the temperature is going to drop below zero by the weekend. Maybe winter is finally going to arrive in force. It would be sooo much easier if it was just snow but oh no:rolleyes:. I’m kinda regretting taking the box blade off and putting the snowblower on but I’m not gonna change it back now. I’ll just use the bucket if it’s too wet. Midwinter I wonder if Friday is the beginning of that polar vortex that’s been predicted? ‘Tis the season.

Maybe! 15° here but not too windy. No outside work for me today, temps like these I just bring wood in as quickly as I can. We're supposed to get a dusting tonight, turning to rain, back up in the 40's.
