I don't have any place to stack wood inside. figured I would set out some small logs out side what distance? for 8 foot boards. Then the stickers, how far apart for those? I can tarp ther stack or leave it open. Maybe if we gwet out of this never ending mud season we will have some dry days for the boards to dry out some. Al
Hey Al you can air dry outside no problem support your stack every 2ft make sure its as level as possible sticker every 2 ft keep your stickers even cover pile on top with overlap to keep rain /snow off if you get a lot of rain you can cover sides with shade cloth or some landscape fabric that keeps most of direct sun and rain off but lets the air through make sure you stack in open area where it can get plenty of air flow and it also helps to paint ends of boards hope this helps JB
You probably know it already trail twister, but a good rule of thumb is to make your stickers from the same wood you’ve slabbed up to prevent staining.
Stickering depends on thickness and species of boards. Thinner boards require closer stickers. As a rule of thumb, 4/4 -8/4 hardwoods -> 18-24" between stickers. Soft woods are frequently stickered at 3ft intervals. Stickers are usually made from the cheapest white wood you can find. Softwoods are good. Around here we have a lot of tulip poplar which is plentiful, cheap and makes good stickers.
