One theory I've heard is that the earth was created from "existing materials"...so yeah, those scientific tests would show the earth being 100k (or whatever) years old.
Just like if I built my new house from 100 YO barn wood...tests show its 100 years old.

But yeah, our wood stoves are but a gnat fart in a XL hurricane...in the big picture

I remember in the 1990's or whenever it was, there was a big push to eliminate CFC's or whatever it was, the propellent in spray cans. And while they did that, come to find out, just one space shuttle mission destroyed more ozone layer then 1 years worth of CFC's.

But another point no one has made yet, is trees. There are many environmentalists that will boast about how many trees they have planted, but as a logger I propose I have planted billions more. Some have been in the form of a tree digging spade, and some have been by releasing seed via natural method, but all of us...through our chainsaws...make a healthier forest.

And i like wood stoves that make good heat regardless of age, if people don't have a proper wood supply they are going to cause excessive emissions anyways

Throw out my wood stove...okay, then what? I am still making a negative impact just being here.

The reality is, as humans we are getting really good at diagnosis, but incredibly poor at prognosis. It does not matter if this is a medical issue, or environmental like the Chernobyl Disaster. The predictions for that were dire, yet more people die every year in coal mining accidents then in that event in totality. Even the environmental impact was nowhere near what humans predicted it would be.

    I am tired of spin.

Kind of like my Ford Focus, it gets 5 mpg less then a Prius, BUT does not have anywhere near the nasty chemicals and heavy metals that make up the batteries that power it. Add in mining, and disposal, and the Prius makes more of a negative impact on the earth then my Focus. But people want to forget about that, and have a feel-good attitude about it.

No spin for me; I worship God and not the creation he has made. I still respect it, I am not going to dump 10 gallons of oil in a pristine lake...

Finally got the beast out of the house took a lot of careful planned work to safely get it up on my homemade dolly, then built a ramp to get it down the front steps and finally down the sidewalk onto the driveway with the help of a neighbor.
Once again if your in need of a shop heater and have access to wood this sucker is here waiting in Central Mass, if not I will put it on crackslist and get rid of it . Here are some pics of the beast.
Takes 30" sticks and creates some serious heat like no other wood stove I have experienced in 30 years of burning wood.

Getting back to a somewhat the intentions of the OP.
My first stove, well not really I had a stove many moons ago in a previous house, was as Rebel. I believe it was a non-EPA.

I bought it used and it served me well for 5 years or so. I couldn't get the "upload file" to work so no full sized picture. Had to pull from a previous posted picture. I still have this stove stored in the barn. It could and would put out a lot of heat, but had a healthy appetite. Any information on this brand of stove would be appreciated.
Second stove was a Buck FS-21. The stove was reburn only and had less of an appetite.
Present stove is a Woodstock AS. Jury is still out on this stove, but think it will perform well when we get to single digits.

    Heat wise:
The Rebel would put out intense heat no matter what the outside temperature is, but also was very hungry . The Buck struggled to maintain temperatures when we got to single digits.
The heat from the AS seems different from the other stoves. The Rebel was a more of an intense heat while the AS feels like a more gentle heat.
Not up on the price of the older stoves put would put the Rebel back in in a heart beat if the AS doesn't perform.
walt has a Baby Bear in his cabin and I am very impressed how it performs.

    WeldrDave,
I tried to post again...got a bit long winded and the site prevented me from posting it totally via pm or here on the thread. Sorry to bombard your pm box...it's the only way I could send more than 16,000 words. LOL!!! ...it didn't exactly tell me how many words...which sort of fits the discussion.

If you think the pm would be beneficial to someone, then feel free to post the pm here on the forum.

Thank you for your service to our great country, Sir! :usa:

I have a Fisher Baby Bear...I am very enthusiastic about it. It works wonderfully, just like Bob Fisher intended. For me it's the perfect stove, it's reliable for heat and cooking on. Only my second season with it and I am very much in love with it. I got it off CL fro $225.
