And brother did they screw them up! I had to go around 4 times on one chain to bring it straight again and get past the messed up tips from the bad hand file job.... Ok enough trash talk lol. Seriously it looks like a good day to cut! Do you have pics of the tractor lift?
A slight upward angle on the sharpening makes worlds of difference, that and rakers set at a consistent grade (mine tend to be aggressive) will make you second guess the hand file. I run a Viking clamp sharpener - sharpen them(all 6 at once) and swap as needed...some might run them a few cords longer but I like sharp chain every few tanks - three strokes brings them back to better than new. Upsize the file a 1/16" from manufacturer specs and get a better chain is what I was taught.
My War on Gravity continues… Kinda funny… have to be careful with a log like that in the pic… if I cut too much off of one end, well, gravity wins on the other… This little JD tractor amazes me all the time, but it really is like having a bucket on the front of a motorcycle.
Ya those little tractors can get tipsy pretty easy. But if it makes you feel better I've had the rear of a 100 horser of the ground more times than I care to count.
Yup, it always does. Looking at the photo at the cabin, I added another little project to my "yeah, sure" list. Gotta paint my claw so she looks spiffy. Bought the tractor new in 2002 and built the claw the next winter. Bout' time I painted it…
