Nice job keeping the home warm in your cold temperatures Rope! That weather strains a lot of equipment and systems.

I know what it is like as have heated our home through -45f, including year we set the record lows in northern MN with temps of -60f February 2nd 1996. One year we had highs that never reached warmer than -20f during the day for several weeks straight...that was a winter in the early 1990s. When if finally reached a high of 0 one day I was able to ice fish outside easily with no gloves with no problem.

A lot of folks I know go through more wood than they planned in that type of weather, and end up scrambling to find any wood to burn, including green.

That is why I am constantly gathering, stacking and of course, hoarding wood to this day!

The other thing that comes to mind reading your posts is that when we are having our warm spells here in Minnesota, you are often very cold - and vice versa.

Right on, I’d like to take you up on that sometime. Do you use decoys or bait to draw the fish in?

Yes. I run hand carved decoys that I have collected over the years.

I used to run a live 10-12" sucker minnow on a harness on a separate line, but no longer bother with that as it can be a bit of a puppet show complete with tangles. Plus I am happy with the fish I see and am able to harvest without a chub down.

Thanks, this is our normal weather for this time of year. We have been abnormally warm so far this winter. It helps having the wife, on board with heating the house with wood. She does a great job when I am at work. I am sitting on 7+ cords. My goal is to get a few pickup loads a week.

    Keep warm!

Very interesting. The ice around here stinks this year. I’m headed 4 hours north next weekend in search of lake trout. Fishing a spot I have never even seen before. Should be interesting, could be a long cold day!

It was so warm yesterday that I didn’t even light a fire last night... as it was still 75f in the house at 8 pm. Woke up to 68f... and lit a fire...

That doesn't surprise me at all considering where you are located. It must be a wonderful place. Interestingly, a lot of folks I know in MN end up migrating to Alaska for more of the same things they like here. I have visited several times and have loved it. I drove up once and enjoyed the whole trip, including your coastal areas. We didn't get as far into the interior as I would have liked to..only as far as Denali.

Currently sitting at -5 C feels -12 C or 22 f feels 11 f. That's some way above average weather. Dogs don't seem to mind at all.

19 here this afternoon. With a little wind. The wind has been up and down from 0-20ish mph. A mix of Pine and Ash keeping the Wood Gun warm and the house toasty.

Got up to 38.5 °F today. Weird weather all last night and today. Snow mixed with rain that pretty much melted anything around me while just a few hundred feet higher they had an additional 7 inches. They're calling for a low of 29 °F for tonight but they'll miss that by 10 to 15 °F if the clouds part as it's looking. Stoves limping along until tonight when I get it going again.

Hit 50 something today and full sunshine. Mid 40s tonight. Rain tomorrow but pushing 60. Going to have a hard time keeping the boiler lit for the next 48 hours.

Supposed to see some colder weather by Wednesday.

26 (yeah right) but feels like 15 (yeah right again). Wind is kicking up out there with 4"-8" expected overnight. Low teens for Tue/Wed but mild temps once again for tomorrow.

But man, it feels colder than what the thermometer is reading!

Wind is howling right now with gusts in the 20 to 30mph range along with some rain. Temps in the 30's. When one lives close to the woods it doesn't take a real strong wind to make it sound bad. Haven't heard anything come down yet.
