The 38/41cc versions are pretty light. The 45cc is a bit of a tank for its size.

I got a bar for my Quake and 2 custom spun loops of .325 Stihl RS chain. Put about 1.5 tanks of fuel through it last weekend

I wish I didn't have 5 saws that all needed broken in before this GTG.

    MS 362C (new)
    Earthquake (new 58 cc engine)
    036 Pro (new Caber rings)
    55 Rancher (new Caber rings)
And my MS 441 could stand to have a couple more tanks through it as well. Although it probably has about 8. Most day 10-15 tanks.

The Earthquake finally has the power it should for as heavy as it is.

I'm not sure how much of my stuff I'm going to get to tear into between now and the G2G at the rate I'm going now. Seems like work, my family and my business have all been demanding maximum attention lately. I might be packing up a bunch of stockers with sharp chain. :(

Are the stock bars and chain decent? MM, can you give me a Stihl chain replacement p/n for the 38cc?

The bars are fine, the chain blows. It's OK for little limbs but in any substantial wood it is seriously slow.

I will check on that Stihl chain # tomorrow for ya but I am pretty sure I had to custom size it.

My dealer custom makes a lot of my loops, so as long as it's comparable with Stihl's links all should be fine.

At the rate of money I am spending? Do you just want to keep the chain to off the loop? Still RS and Oregon LGX (and the Forester and Woodland Pro equivalent)? I would be totally fine with that. I just got 5 chains ready to pack up today and ship out... Would save me some bucks. But I know Mike and the other will have some self ground "Good Chain" ;).

Come again? I'm good on chains for my quakes, Adam is looking for chains to fit a potential purchase.

Got one more tank through mine yesterday. . Really digging how this thing cuts. Chain is still sharp after a couple tanks :)

Also, went next door and worked out a deal on some junk logs. Tomorrow he is gonna bring over a half dozen or more "Junk" logs.. :) That will surely get me some tanks through the other saws before the GTG..

Greeting fellow Quakers. Count me in. Bought a stack of the 38's after my first one. Wouldn't want to try to heat the house with one, but for clearing honeysuckle or thinning brush, cutting up a downed branch they're perfect. And I don't feel guilty piling other tools on top of it in the back of the truck on a daily basis.

I've read through most if not all this and the AS quake thread. Lots of good mods have been made. Has anyone found a simple effective muff mod for the 38cc quake? I haven't removed the cat, just opened it up a scosche. With the way it put together there isn't a clear elegant solution. I'd buy a non-cat muff, but at $20 its half the price of the saws in question. And what's the "hot cheap & dirty" chain for these lo-pro mo's? Stihl picco? Woodland pro? Anybody got one they really like.

My 38 cc I just took a 1/2" bit or 5/8" bit and drilled from the back of muffler (remove from saw), straight through the front. The deflector still covers the hole.

Is that using something like Chris pa's rear cover plate? Or do you mean in through the inlet angled toward the outlet? I'm not "seeing it"? I'll pull one off and see if its clearer...

No take muff off and drill right through the inlet hole right out the front of it. So before u put the outer cover plate back on u can see right into the cylinder

I have Stihl PM loops on mine but if I keep any of them I think I will make a couple loops of PS up for them.
