Used 2 out of 4, saw both others. Does that make me old?

At work they tell me all the time that I am the cranky old man of our department. :BrianK: I think it just has more to do with my lack of filter for telling management truth than it does age. Was told lately that they are amazed I have never got it for insubordination. I just replied that truth hurts and I point out painful fact in a way that doesn't get into personal attack and they haven't found a way to make fact insubordinate even if it hurts. But yes I am surprised too!:smoke:

I must be older than dirt. I have used 7 of the 8 and remember the other one.
I hadn't used the paper cutter but remember dad had one. He was a plastering contractor and had one loaded with some rust colored heavy paper. He would pullout the need length, rip it off and put it on the customer's floor for protection.

I built /used one of these in Ak.
    image035.jpg

It was 3 sides and a shed roof......plywood.
Worked fine when I lived out there by myself. There wasn't anyone out there except me,
the bears and moose. When me and the better half moved out there, she needed a door.
So, I put a door on it. Then, she decoupaged the inside, put a little candle lantern in there.
It had a foam insulation seat. In the winter, you didn't need a magazine rack.

We had a phone older than that on a party line.

...and I can still ride my bike over to Dave's Chuck Wagon diner and enjoy one of these.

We still plug in our rotary phone when the power goes out if we need to make a call.
Built an outhouse at my cottage, thankfully haven't used it in thirty years.

Like I told my parents last week- use the cell phone when the power goes out. Bought it for them a couple years ago. Still can't get them to ditch the landline.

If you don't have one yet, you should try it. Wonderful technology, and low cost options abound now.

    Crap I'm getting old!

Didn't have to think twice about any of the images. Only one was the shoes.......never had those tow tone buster browns, but we did have to take our shoes off for dances (sock hops).

Great thread. Brings back some memories.

I have the little shot glasses that were my grandparents. One glass broke, but the gold-plated wire caddy is around somewhere. It is a rare occasion that we take them out. Usually to celebrate some great event and more for nostalgia.

    20190106_070300.jpg

The push button light switches are still around houses here. I used to do a bit of mechanical and architectural drafting in high school and the copiers used ammonia in the process. I'll never forget the hot ammonia gasses wafting off the copier.

My grandparents also had a string of glass beads to hang on their Christmas tree every year. A few of the beads were cracked and we knew to handle them carefully. It made them happy seeing them on the tree. Their tinsel was real tin, and the string of seven big bulbs was hot. They had clips to fix them to the branch so the needles would not dry out. Great memories...
How we ever survived back then.:rofl:
