My cheetah has cleats. Digs in better on hard pack and ice than those big paddles on my 97 ZR580EXT.

 

I wouldn't ever buy one of those cats. The essential merger with Yamaha has helped with stupid stuff like that though.

I'm really impressed with the newer 1049cc yamaha venture 4 strokes. If I were to buy a newer sled right now, that's probably what I'd buy. Then again Polaris has a nice 2up seat for axys sleds. Then there's the 1200 4 stroke Doo which is very nice as well. Oh yeah, the cat Pantera or a long track cat/ Yamaha viper with the 2up seat. I've not ridden the yamacat viper/ Pantera yet, not the axys, but the 1200 Doo and the venture are very nice and I was happy on them. The wife would be too.

I have always had Arctic cats. So did my friends. I'd like to stay on the redneck rocket if I can..

A lot of my friends that I used to ride with, had cars, always cat. Now of the few of us that still ride, none are the ones that rode cat. The cat riders were breaking more parts that just shouldn't break, all the time. Yes the other brands are not unbreakable, but the rate and circumstances of most of the non obviously rider fault breakages told me what I was thinking was correct. Parts for cats were always more expensive than other brands similar parts too.
My first sled was a panther, 84 kind of rare actually since that was the first year after they came back from bankruptcy and a year off of no cat sleds. That sled was fun, and unreliable. As of last year( or was it 2 yrs?) Arctic cat has been sold, again. Not confidence inspiring as to the the direction of the company, regardless of what I have seen of them in the past.

 

Both of mine are just ride em sleds. As a kid I remember the cheetah always ran. Always. Every one else's broke down, but not the cheetah. The ZR also always runs. Sure the shocks leak ... Just like all fox(there's redneck brand recognition) schocks. The oiler is garbage. It works.but it is like a fogger on start up. I can't call it unreliable. Looks like since the days of Toomey (sp?) they are having issues again.

 

I have 1987 and 1993 Ski Doo Tundras. I love them for ice fishing, hauling out deer and running on old logging roads and for our private trail system. They are very reliable machines, always start in even the coldest MN winters, light, and easy to get unstuck!

I have also had a 1984 Polaris TXC 340 and a 1972 Johnson. They were OK, but not anywhere near as functional as my Tundras.

 

Someone is giving us two sleds, a 2001 Polaris xc700 (Red) and a
2005 Polaris Indy 550 (Red & White). Unfortunately that’s all I know about them so far.

They're pull start and on a trailer and haven't been used for 2 years but had a complete tune up the prior season. He can no longer ride due to a fractured vertebra.

Any thoughts on those particular sleds? What they're worth, what kind of reputation they had? (He's donating them to our tax exempt community so he can write off their value on taxes.)

 

The sleds are 17 and 12 years old respectively, Polaris in those years were decent sleds.. Here if they start and run are worth 900 for 2005 and 500 ish 2001. Parts are generally worth more than sled if not running..

 

Well the 2001 xc700 it's the first year of the edge chassis ( aside from the very limited 2000 xc600 edge model) but it's a solid chassis with very good suspension, and the liquid cooled twin had good power, about 120 hp or so. It's a great motor. Does that one have reverse? I think the PERC reverse where the engine will actually spin in reverse wasn't until 02, but a mechanical reverse was available. Does it have electric start, a fuel gauge?

The 550 is again in the same chassis, but the 550 fan is about 75 hp. Do you have pictures? Miles and options on each?

 

That's it by you for values? Crazy. Around here even a higher miles 2001 xc700 so is worth 2k. The 550, while newer, was a much less expensive sled when new but still probably worth 2000 in good shape.

BrianK , I'd say the package with trailer should be no less than $4000, especially for tax reasons. I'd say higher, without even knowing more.

 

As far as I know neither sled has electric start or reverse and as far as mileage goes, I have no idea. He’s literally giving the two sleds and trailer to our tax exempt community. He’s just wondering what he can claim as the value for a tax write off. His daughter is a member of our community so he wants her to be able to use them.

 

Yup sled value solely depends on amount of snow.. Here trailer is worth as much as sleds..

Just turned down 2012 skidoo 600 2300 miles great shape etc etc 1,400 as no snow..

 

For tax purposes, value 2 sleds with trailer 5 thousand call dealer to get high pricing..

 

Ok thanks. The sleds are up in Newbury NH. He has to find the trailer title and I need to go back with my pick up to get everything. First I need to get the trailer registered and licensed for Massachusetts which is a royal pia.

Hmm. No snow, or barely here, they just hold value. If I was offered that for 1400, I'd probably buy it show or no snow, especially if it were a 2 up.

Yeah I gotta agree. Even around here they would bring more than that, and we barely get enough snow to ride anymore...most years

 

I've got a 2000 xc600sp with reverse and electric fuel gauge and I wouldn't sell it for less than 2k.
