What's this guy think that it's highly valuable black walnut or something! I wouldn't pay a dime for it. I'd also find out who the tree service was. They may dump all the free wood you want in your yard. Some do.

Looks like its ruralish so he may get away with a year. If he lived in a town or city limit he'd likely get hit with a ordnance violation depending on how uppity the area was. A less scrupulous wood scrounger might even go so far as to report such violations, so as facilitate faster disposal of the yard waste in question.

It always amazes me the ideas folks have on what a tree is worth. Of course those who have never burned wood are always the worst; they think they have a gold mine. Then there are the ones who have walnut. Oh the stories...

There might be two cords of wood there depending on the diameter and length of that trunk.
I can get two (three actually) cords of logs delivered and dumped in my yard for $85 to $110 a cord.
I might pay him that should he do the same.
To come remove it ? It would have to be free or maybe even pay me to remove it like he would have to to anyone with the equipment to do it fast.
That's what market prices are here, I doubt they are much different there.

If I had grapple truck or big loader would maybe take for free, but would not pay.

    This^^

I replied to a similar add about 2 weeks ago. Told the gentleman if he couldn't sell it, I'd be interested in taking it, but couldn't afford to pay. I think it's about time I send him another message. An ounce of kindness goes a long way in these situations.
I heat my family with the wood and don't sell it, yadda yadda. :campfire:

Only thing that concerns me is, it's a yard tree, and I've hit my share of metal in them.

If there's metal in that one it ought to be pretty obvious. Its been cut and oak will show a blue streak if there's metal in it.

Update. I didn't read every post before I posted. $250 to clean his yard?!? :faint:Only one thing to say about that; say "Sure, I'll take $250 to clean up that mess."

I'm guessing that's what the tree service that felled the tree was going to charge to remove it all and he said no. But like the man said there's a sucker born every minute.:picard:
