31F here with a WC of 26. Checked the boiler & didn't even reload. Rain has stopped, but really nasty & damp outside. Didn't stay up last night, kinda don't feel the best. Glad to have a slow day to get better. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year everyone! Sitting at -2 still, our low for overnight. Reloaded at 9 last night and went to bed just after midnight here. Still at 70 inside this morning. Reloaded with red oak amd the IS is kicking it at 450 stt. Can't complain keeping 3200 sq ft warm with a 3 cu ft stove!! Heading for no warmer the upper single digits today so its going to earn its keep! Back to near 40 by weeks end though!?!?
Sconnie Burner It only got down to the mid teens overnight and the stove room was at 72 this morning. The forecast for 40's later this week don't seem right for Wisconsin. This time of year we should be spending most of our time below zero. Stove is eating some red oak and keeping us warm.
3 degrees with a real feel of -11. brrrr Burned maple and hackberry in the cast iron stove last night.
Happy New Years to everyone. Here's the last swing this cold blip took at us last night before bed. It's rolling out and we're at -17c feels -27 c or 1 f feels -14 f. Should be in the clear now. Poplar and heating oil AND electric heat for the bathroom. Generating some btu's here!!
Temp seems to be holding around 27. Cloudy. Not much wind, which is good. Expecting mid teens tonight but then back up around 30.
We're gooder on both counts. We stop at the Pepperidge Farms outlet store (outlet mall off I75 and the Frankenmuth exit) and load up for the freezer. Hard to pass up @ $1.25/loaf. If we do happen to run out, I can always make bread. I should give that a shot in the 30. Hmmmm. Wife buys powdered milk, and we have the equivalent of about 15 gallons of that ready to mix. Yep, we gotz it covered. Oh yeah, we ended up with around 6-8" of white stuff last night.
Our little bit of snow melted off, and it was a good day for work outside, felt like April at 50° and blustery. I did some splitting, and threw the submersible pump in the pool cover to bring the water down a little.
You can see how much snow we got yesterday. We started with only about an inch on the ground but the rain made short work of that. Today though would have been a fine day for working in the woods...but I didn't. I did bring some wood to the porch. And here is a picture of one of the log piles I started. It will be appreciated during our gtg next Spring.
It warmed up to 28.4 °F today. Clear skies and not much wind. Had the day off so the wife and I decided to be kids again and tear around in the forest.
Hello All. We just got back from 6 day retreat to our cabin in northeast Minnesota. We hit -15f one morning after a fresh lake enhanced 18 inches of snow Thursday into Friday. We hit -18f this morning with a stiff breeze this morning after another 3 inches of snow overnight into this morning. Here is our heating system inside the cabin with the first fire of the long New Year's weekend. The stove is from Menards and is manufactured in Canada. It has been a good stove for our cabin for the last 18 years. Our cabin and a few of our stacks of split sugar maple, paper birch, black ash and a bit of poplar. This is one of the the piles we are burning this winter.
JP, that has to be a lot different from riding around on the rocks. Fun either way though. Thanks for the pictures.
Temperature has dropping really fast here. It was about 32 late morning/early afternoon and by the time I stopped working with the tractor at dark it was down to about 12. It is now 9 with a slight breeze. A mix of Pine and Ash in the boiler for now. Supposedly going to a low of 4 overnight, but I wouldn’t doubt that we will see the big Zero.
Welcome to the forum hovlandhomestead. Love the pictures. How much does it help with all the rocks on the stove? Have you ever had one explode on you? Enjoy the snow. Many have none this year or worse, had some and it turned into disaster with rain or ice.
