Well I ended up getting a trailer and truck load, definitely not shagbark hickory, I believe this is white oak.

Here are some pictures. It was massive, probably close to 5 foot diameter at the stump!

Yes there are some smaller maples down to here too. That standing tree next to the shed was oak

Also there was this tree? I didn’t see any leaves and the rounds were really light compared to the oak.

Any idea what kind of tree it is? I can get better pictures in the morning if needed

Yes. I stand corrected on the Hickory/Oak. It is oak.

These pictures could be bur oak. The smaller rounds sometimes seem light, but it is great firewood.

    For sure white oak.

Hey The Muzzy, after uploading the pictures, please click on that top button for "Thumbnail" or "Full Image." That will insert the pictures right into the thread rather than having everyone to click on those attached pictures to get the good one up. It will help everyone. Thank you.

Welcome to the group. I wouldn't touch that wood....lol....unless I was closer... ...from what I can tell, it's white oak, several of the white oak varieties have bark like that.

I don't think it's tulip poplar. Bark is to rough and dark, and the wood like to yellow, IMO

    Welcome Muzzy and Joe.
Last pics look like a soaking wet Sassafras to me but my wood id skills are from poor to nonexistent.
Grab it up. Gotta light all that good score with something.
