32F & sun here, just moved another cord of wood & cut some low limbs & scrub. Nice day to be out, but the ground went soft pretty fast. Had maybe an inch of snow overnight, but that's gone. Rain tomorrow & no real winter temps in sight.:headbang: Oh yeah, & Silver Maple in the boiler from last night. Should check that maybe.

Kinda what I was thinking too. Gonna make log skidding a real problem.

Been hanging in the mid 30's here today. 33 outside now. I did go out and tidy up a couple stacks and move some wood to top off the patio shed and put some inside. Fresh air felt good and the dog needed to chase the ball for exercise. Haven't burnt much cherry this year as the stacks I have been pulling from have not had much of that. Did find about a dozen splits that I had used to crib the end, so I have an evening cherry fire going. Rain moving in tomorrow and mid 50's but just one day warm up.

Didn't get much above freezing today and it is 23ºF now.
Had a little under a dozen splits that were too long to fit in the stove so cut a few inches off them today.
The cutoffs are disappeared in the stove.

I'm pretty sure the world extends beyond your immediate view, and it is possible for it to be cold somewhere, without it being cold where you live. You can believe in global warming or climate change, yet can't believe a mass of air can be erratic and split off? Paying attention to a jet stream map tells you more than looking ahead 10 days in the forecast.

Red and sugar maple getting going here, 26 outside with a bit of a breeze. Enjoying time in front of the stove with a little adult style hot cider while the girls watch some sort of dopey t.v. show. I'm not usually one for a fruity drink, but this Jim Beam Red Stag that Santa left under the tree sure goes down easy! :coffee:

I am normally on the side of the science, but as a winter sport enthusiast I get a bit depressed when we get mud.

So, that said... I will be happy to be wrong.

I see your point now, and that's understandable. It would be like cabin fevers evil cousin. Here's hoping your weather gets to more seasonal norms.

Walking into some chilly tonight. May hit -33 C or -43 c including wind overnight. Seeing I haven't burned much heating oil this year, I don't even feel guilty running stove and furnace at the same time. -26 C feels -30 C is the actual temp at the moment. Rough poplar chugging away.

It was 10 or 11 below when I went to bed last night . 8 above when I got up this morning.
First time it's been above 0 in at least 2 1/2 weeks. But it didn't get real cold either. Maybe 25 under ambient.
Its around +25° F atm. Poplar puttering along in the stove.

35 and a all day rain setting in. Thinking about getting some shoulder wood brought up to the house. I’ve been holding the IS back since we fired it up. I’m ready to let it rip! We need some cold!

25f burning oak slabs burned 70,000,000 BTUs to house so far . 200,000,000 BTUs will be end apirl got a ways to go. Has anyone found a good barometer calculator to figure in altitude ? I'm learning how much barometer screws with my boiler..

About 25 here this morning. The overnight Maple and Ash left a deep bed of coals that is great for gasification of the Pine this morning. :fire:

25 OAT headed for mid 30’s today with snow and freezing rain due to arrive late this evening, supposedly changing to rain by morning. Prediction is for 3-4” of slop again :headbang: then freezing up. Happy New Year!
Still burning coals from last night.
