I'm going to message him I will come back it up and bring home up any mess I make ect. And it's a good 30 mins from my home
There is a extremely high amount of tree companies in my area and they all travel out. They go all over.
I feel certain the homeowner took the lowest bid offered and this is what he got...probably thought he could make money off the log. A buddy of mine hauled a beautiful load of big oak logs to a mill and as soon as they heard "yard trees", they said they didn't take yard trees...
Stoveburner38 , not to sound cynical here but. Like most have said, that tree is no good except as firewood. At this point it's yard waste. If you need firewood it's probably worth it free for the work. If you have to pay or do a bunch of clean up take a pass. Adjust accordingly depending on the person's age, physical condition, & attitude. Remember that not many have the tools & ambition to deal with a tree that size.
Yes....they may get someone to take the smalls...but I'm saying if anyone else bites on the log, you better go introduce yourself, because its probably a fellow FHC'r! (no worries, I'm all stocked up here...and that's at least a 2 hour drive for me! )
I would clean up the log for free and leave everything else. The crown on a yard tree that size could be gigantic. For a friend i would clean it all up for free, but not a stranger.
A lot would depend on how difficult oak is to get by you. By me its semi scarce, not the tree itself but trees available for cutting. I'd be willing to pay a bit if I could take what I wanted and then leave the mess.
Big trees are alot of work. You're gonna need an extra hand and probably an extra saw. Nice find though.
I'm sorry, I don't trust petty people who look to make a dollar out of every situation. I would stay away from any business dealings with a person like this. At the very least Ad should have said "free wood for someone who can cut up and haul away a very big tree".
He will put it up for free a year from now when he gets tired of looking at it, saw It happen many times
When I was young, dumb, and full of... Y'know. I had a huge silver maple cut down at our first house and wanted to recoup some of the money I spent.. so I checked out the market, and NO ONE was selling rounds, so I got a maul and started splitting just like if done with my uncle years back when we cleared his land to build a house. Made back a third of what I spent by selling g a couple cord, and was happy, and kept enough to have pit wood for years. I have to laugh at ads like this. It ain't that hard, folks. Know your market.
... anybody that probably owns a saw big enough to cut that ... Knows how much work is involved in the removal of something of that size.
