This crew moved in yesterday, and by all accounts will probably be leaving in the spring. 11 clowns are sure comical to watch.
I had a couple under the birdfeeder hung from the tree. They were eating the seeds the smaller birds knocked to the groung. Until I let the two dogs out
Agreed. What does it mean that you know who sang that song...? I guess at least I’ve been learned on that one point.
I think we have way too many in our area. I saw a flock of about 35 of them yesterday in a field. I had to stop for the same flock last week crossing the road. Some folks have resorted to feeding them purposely, as in scoops of feed on the ground. Some folks have bird feeders with seed drop, which is hard to avoid. The only upside I see is that hopefully they eat a lot of ticks. They are not too afraid of humans and can be stubborn. Seeing them a few years ago when they were just starting to get established was a treat, being a large game bird. Now, they are becoming a nusiance. I do miss the pheasant that used to be around and the occasional grouse. I'm sure the turkeys are competition to them. Not many hunters or large tracts of open space here either. There was about 10 more off to the right side of the road.
We had (too many of ) them for several years. Summer before last a pack of coyotes cleaned just about all of them out. The hens with chicks were easy prey. I watched them take a few. Coyotes may be why the non-migrating geese have disappeared for the last two Summers. For some reason they've stopped nesting here.
