Sheesh what a crap storm of a day. We got a solid 3” then it switched to freezing rain at about 9 am and stayed there pretty much all day. It’s slicker than snot on a doorknob everywhere you look. It’s gone back and forth fortunately so there’s only a relatively thin coating of ice and it’s supposed to warm up slightly overnight. We’ll see. I went out at 10 and cleaned up the snow and glad I did. It’s icy slush everywhere that didn’t that just might be frozen by morning if the overnight forecast is as accurate as today’s supposed high of 40. We never got close at the surface. It’s 35 above and 30 at ground level. Tomorrow it’s supposed to warm up a bit in the morning and then dive in the afternoon so it’s looking like it’ll be icy for awhile.
X2 Maina! The weather today was a chit show. 3" inches or so of heavy wet snow (this started when it was 15°F out early) switched to a moderate freezing rain by lunch time. Everything is frozen solid to the ground. The road up was a sheet of ice. I busted out the kubota and scraped as much as I could and put sand down! A spreader needs to go on the get list soon! Gonna start looking for a used unit. Current temp 32°F hanging around the freezing mark overnight, rising up a few degrees then dropping off through the day tomorrow, heading to low single digits overnight. Will light the WS before bed with aspen and birch
33F after 52 this morning. Remaining rain switched over to snow, but isn't amounting to anything. Supposed to get colder the next few days. Weather said Wednesday may be the coldest day of the winter so far with a high of 18. Last year we had some sub zero weather around now. Silver Maple in the boiler.
Miserable day for shoveling here today. The warmer temps of yesterday and previous days created a nice bed of soft slush. Then, the temps dropped and every thing got hard! I got the driveway done this morning, then we left for the day. Upon my return this evening, I finished the walk and the deck and just about all of the paths. Had to break through and scrape everything as the temps continued dropping all day long. Our 13 feeling like 3 will drop to 3 overnight, so tomorrow would only have made matters worse or even impossible for the scraping portion of shoveling. Ended up with a good 4" on top of the above mentioned frozen base.
0f burning oak slabs living room 80f yes boilers outside . Humidifiers going full on . Sent from my LGL84VL using Tapatalk
32 feels like 27 and the theme of the morning is... 75 inside on coals so far. Supposed to get near 40 around noon then plunge into the teens tonight so hopefully we’ll get enough of a break to clean up a little. Then another chit show coming just in time for the ball drop. I’ll be snoozing through that one
46 this morning looks like the highest temp of the day. Wind is blowing in the cold air supposed to drop into the 20’s. But the sun will be out.
Not a darn thing!! This was as I pulled out this morning to go hunting. Its December 29th, and I was warm as could be walking thru the marsh this morning. Been here an hour and not even the slightest chill has hit me...
5 deg. oat on the back deck, 12" of snow on the ground. I had a good workout yesterday shoveling both decks, then plowing my 300' switchback driveway. Ponderosa pine burning now, with a big chunk of mesquite up next.
Can't believe we're almost through December already. Chilly night and morning but could always be much worse. Some of that bone dry grey colored poplar chasing the chill away.
Shot up to 55ºF yesterday afternoon and last night with the rain. Sunny now and still 55ºF Cold stove, it is too warm for it. Supposed to be 25ºF tomorrow morning.
Upper 20's and climbing, nice dusting of snow and its beautiful outside. Heating up the shop with some local trees, then top with a nice Oak layer.
35 here, plenty of wind. Let the stove go "cool" this morning, pulled and vacuumed the cat, swept the chimney, shop vacuumed out the top of the stove, and still had 70 downstairs after all was said and done, despite being in and out a bunch of times. Stove was still radiating heat, and has plenty of coals to get a load going.. Just dropped the cat, dialing it down then time for a nap! Got some flaky black creosote out of the chimney - not a lot, but more than I was hoping for. I expected it given our marginal wood this year (planned on running the owb again, didn't worry too much about small splits and stacking to optimize drying) but this should be the only season we face this problem. already have another couple years css, plenty more on deck for years 4 and 5. New stacks and rebuilt stacks are all in much better drying conditions, so for this year I'll just sweep often and look forward to next year!
