I've been thinking about buying 1 for awhile and the other day I saw a video and the doubtful narrator was impressed. I looked around the internet for both Stihl at $50 shipped and Pferd somewhat less. I stopped by Ace, the local Stihl dealer and was pleasantly surprised having 1 .325 left at $34.99. I haven't used it yet but if I like it I'll get a 3/8 when they come in.
Got one for my 3/8 chains. Very handy for a quick touch up in the field. You'll like it I think. Good price too.
I finally bought one for one of my saws and was impressed with it. The other saw was jealous so I bought one for it also.
I sharpened 2 this morning and they look very nice. The file seemed to slide more smoothly one direction than the other but its probably just me getting the feel for it.
I find the exact same thing. Even replaced both the files. I think it’s something with my position over the bar. Doesn’t really make sense as I use it in a vice but you never know. If something can be done wrong I usually find a way. That aside I do get a decently sharp chain and it’s done with little hassle so I am very happy with the 2 in 1.
I file all the cutters that go to the left then turn the saw 180 degrees in the vice to file the cutters that go to the right. When you do that you have to flip the sharpener over onkeep the same angle. This uses the other other round file in the sharpener. No idea why it seems like it bites less but I notice it more on my .325 than my pico sharpener.
They only fit one way if I remember correctly. I did replace mine. I will check it out this weekend if it’s still doing it. I actually thought it was all in head until bang brought it up I have swapped mine as well with the same result. Also replaced them both with brand new files.
My experience is that those are unidirectional. Generally a push only. And the flat files have an arrow to show the way on both sides. And those rakers look kinda low. Be careful if your using the top of the bar or even more so on a plunge cut.
I actually flip my saw over in the vise so I'm working "strong" handed on both left & right cutters. Get a little better results that way. YMMV
