It is probably the other metals in the jewelry, not the gold itself (gold doesn't oxidize - why it is used extensively in important electronics). Your new ring may have copper or silver mixed in and your old rings had other metals.

Uncle gave them to me Christmas afternoon, plus 5 bags of other recycling. I don't know how long he took to drink them, and I don't know if I want to know haha

    Lol. Understand completely.

My father in law often gives me a huge bag of Bud Light cans to redeem. I get a bag about every other week. I know how many typically are in a bag but I prefer not to do math :)

Now the redemption center not only thinks that I have a drinking problem but they also think I drink Bud Light. :)

Haha, I hate that feeling. Any such situation. I usually feel compelled to try to find a reason to state otherwise, like in this case that it's not me that emptied the bottles.

Other metals mixed in to make the gold stronger?, or the silver looking prongs that house the diamonds?

I've had much cheap silver jewelry over the years that leave green marks, reminds me of tarnish, but never gold.

Well, with the commission from the massive orders that have been coming in this week, I might be able to buy an atv this spring to go along with the boat.

That will correct that issue. That's what I did. You don't have to spend a lot either. My Kawasaki bayou was only 1k, and it's by far the best wheelbarrow, ever.

New siding on the front porch is done. Back porch tomorrow....or maybe Saturday.

Crazy wind here this afternoon. Watched my neighbor's back porch fly over his house and land in the driveway.

Yeah, I've been looking for a while and 1-2k seems to be sufficient. I have a trail system that runs right past my backyard, so that and a small trailer will unlock a lot of potential firewood close to home.

14k gold is not pure gold, it is an allow of about 60% gold. 18k gold is 75% and 24k is supposed to be pure. Also, pure gold would not keep its shape very well with daily use, such as for rings, as it is a fairly soft metal. Metals are added for strength and durability - silver, copper, nickel and zinc are the most usual metals used for that.

FYI - rose gold, white gold etc are made by using higher concentrations of specific metals in the mixture (white is silver, rose is copper). Same with Diamonds that are anything but colorless - those contain minerals that influence color. Interesting factoid (at least to me since I used to work with industrial sapphire), pure sapphire is colorless and is the second hardest material known to man. Both gem quality sapphires and rubies are the same stuff (AL2O3) except for the impurities in them.
