Well sort of anyway. Ya see we have had a fair bit of rain down here in the last couple of weeks which is unusual for this time of year usually the grass is dry and dead by Christmas but we have had about 2 months worth of rain in a couple of weeks one particular storm caused flooding in northern Victoria and Melbourne. Anyway as a result the grass is going bonkers. (Growing gooder than normal) So Sunday it was cool 70F and I got the 30 odd year old Walker ride on out of the shed and put her to work. After a few loads of clippings had been dumped the mower started pulling to the left I looked down at the left drive tyre and sure enough it was almost flat so I took it back to the shed to give it some attention. As I was pumping up the tyre I notice oil dripping from the engine. So I popped the back hatch and catcher up to expose the top of the engine to find that it’s blown the governor shaft oil seal. Ok more tools required. Now I start to take the arm of the governor on the still hot engine when the spanner slipped, skinning and burning my knuckles on the exhaust. Ms Leoht had come out to see what had happened and was watching. So that was the final straw I said bugger this old thing I’m going to get a new reliable mower. I got up early this morning and headed in to town to my mate Andre’s Husqvarna shop, I was there waiting for him when he arrived to open up, being Christmas Eve I new he was going to have a busy day so I wanted to get in first. Anyway we spent a bit of time catching up on other things non power equipment before he showed me a almost perfect condition Stihl 090 that someone had sold him we talked about that for awhile and agreed that when he decides to part with it that I will buy it from him. Then I said mate while I’m here I’ll take that shiny new Z steer. Andre went and worked out the mates rates price and the mechanic set up the controls for my size then we loaded her on the ute and I headed home with a grin on my face. Retail therapy at it’s finest. By time I got it home and unloaded off the ute it was 90F too hot to mow but I couldn’t help myself I just had to cut some grass. Merry Christmas y’all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Merry Christmas to you, mate! I have a friend that lives in Bacchus Marsh, AU..... he said it's been pretty hot down under, too!
Are Bacchus Marsh is just down the road only 42 miles from me! The weather is a bit different down there and they usually dry out earlier than up here. I go trough there on the way to Melbourne. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My buddy's name is Hayden Ivers, he's been over here hanging out with us several times, he drag races old Fords and comes to an all-Ford big block drag race at a local track my cousin owns every April. He's a good dude, cracks me up!
Too hot to mow?? That's why it has a beer holder on the side. Congrats! I've never heard an Ozzie say "gooder" , but I'm sure it sounds better than how we say it. Lol
So leoht how many hours did the 30 year old one have? How much do ya mow when its not burnt? It's Christmas there now so merry Christmas..
Merry Christmas Lyle. I don’t know how many hours were on the old unit as it doesn’t have a meter but I can tell you that it is on it’s 3rd engine. It was worn out just about a wreck when it came to me 15 years ago and I have been fixing it up ever since. It was a gift from my farther in law. He had used it to mow the Caravan park that they used to own it used to do a few hours almost every day, so it has done an incredible amount of work. I only mow a couple of acres, it doesn’t take long just getting in and around the trees and garden beds slows me down. That’s why I like the zero turn style mowers as opposed to the tractor style. It’s a 1979 Ford Falcon 302 Cleveland V8 all Aussie built at a factory in Broadmeadows, a suburb of Melbourne. The engine was built at the Ford engine plant in Geelong. Sadly both factories have closed now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Its been a while since I was around cars in general and muscle cars in particular. It looks beautiful !
You mentioned the Ford Falcon, and immediately I thought of Mad Max interceptor. Found an interesting article about the remaining car. https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2015/...mad-max-interceptor-and-its-not-in-australia/
