Ya there giant rounds to me it looks like a catalpa tree not sure tho pretty sure its a soft wood if that's what it is.
It does look like catalpa. If so, it's burnable, but not great. It's a low btu softwood. A little less BTU's than poplar, and basswood. Iirc, a direct comparison would be horse chestnut. It will make BTUs though, and it dries quickly. So it will make heat.
It's a night shot so can't be totally sure, but pretty sure its either Cotton wood or Poplar. Looking at the deeper colored heartwood rings in one of the pictures I'm leaning towards Black Poplar in particular. That said, both species (Cotton wood or poplar) are very close in relation and will perform almost the same. As others here have mentioned one of the fastest for seasoning. A pile of cotton wood at my brothers houseBlack Poplar example I found on internet
Now that I look it looks all Alo more like that black poplar I'm going by it today will get day pics o it. Some tree guys had a trailer load and dumped these of in my friends driveway when the tree recycling place is about a mile or 2 away lazy people kill me
Take a day shot, like you said. If that heart isn't green, maybe cut a fresh slice and see. I'm thinking cottonwood, if heart isn't green. Bark looks mighty rough for tulip poplar
Whatever it is, if it's any of those trees, it's a fast seasoning wood. If you process it now, it will be ready for next season.
