Very cool and I'm jealous, as I haven't done any serious forging since the spring.

I like the twisted ring and the hot punches for the trammel. The pieces gets an old timey look to it with punched holes. The bar stock swells out at the holes.

Didn’t even get the punch stuck this time! I learned the hard way to keep it cool and not let it sit to long. Someone who shall remain nameless J.Dirt May or May not have accidentally welded a punch into a piece of stock a while ago :picard:

Actually blacksmith i think she’s starting to notice the neat things I can make for the house, like mantle hooks for stockings. DC137CDE-B872-4E9F-8DAC-BE08F1156AF1.jpeg
It was a short cut off of 3/8 round I had from the lift ring on the tripod. I squared it up and drew out the whole piece and tapered one end. Then left a section square for the twist and rounded the rest for the hook portion. I set the end of the round flat to make the scroll. Formed the hook and bend for the “nail” then put the twist on the square and finished with the flat tail by scrolling it up.

I'm curious if you are using a turning fork in a vise for scrolling your hooks?

I made a few out of round stock in a "U" shape and put them in the vise. They can help make nice, consistent turns. Hooks are a gooder thing to have.

All my cast pans are on forged hooks.

Even the roll pan has a custom job just for the finger holds in the pan.

Currently I’ve just been using the anvil and hammer. I bought the steel ohhhh three months ago :picard:to make a couple hardie turning forks. Obviously that hasn’t happened yet, but you are sure right about nice consistent turns! I’d love to make a bunch more hooks they are sure handy!! As always that’s a sweet iron collection!!

I love it! I can’t wait to get my little shop set up so I can work easier! Probably have to wait til spring since there’s firewood in the way.

I made a little time to work on this one from 3 cut flooring nails. The "y" was hot cut and split. I get these random ideas and have to stop what I am doing to make them. I had to use a cherry base since I burned my birch log last week.:picard:

We stopped at a house salvage store yesterday and they has a bunch of forged items for sale. Hinge pintels, strap hinges, hooks and crane arms. Lots of old house fixtures, doors and lumber.
