I called my Tree Service Friend and he sent me to this! Cedar Deodar. Not my first wood of choice but six blocks from the house and conveniently located! I have burned Deodar before and it was just OK. I can't seem to find a BTU content for comparison but it burns a lot like Fir but not quite as good. Pops a bit and more ash. I almost passed on it, but it was sooo close to the curb and kept calling to me. Also, when they piled the logs, they erroneously put them on the neighbor's property. He was pretty cool about it but made it clear that he wanted it moved quickly so as not to kill the grass. So I am also doing my friend a favor by getting it gone quick. cedar1.jpg cedar2.jpg cedar3.jpg cedar4.jpg You always want to keep in the Tree Service Guys good graces! Still have one more large log to get tomorrow. After this he has a pretty nice Doug Fir that they took down in a backyard not far from here. It was standing dead and looks to be in great shape. Could even be used later this Winter. I'll get the cedar processed and away to my Sister then go after the Fir. It all burns...Right?

Yep, you really can't say no in that situation. Plus you help family & friends. Good work!

Drive right up to it, no brush to clean up, hard to pass on that. I also noticed your December looks vastly different than what we have here in Northern Wisconsin.

A great excuse to have some firewood-making fun! Just helping out your sister, your tree service friend, and a 6-block away neighbor, not hoarding behavior at all!

Deodar cedars are beautiful trees. It's too bad the wood doesn't burn better. But, the convenience of the score would be really hard to pass up. If you can pull your trailer right up to it you kind of have to take it.

Nice. For sure not many of us have to deal with all the moss you have out there. That is one of the things I really noticed when we visited that area but I can see that it could be a nice area to live.

Yes, keep the tree service people happy!

Very true! I we had your weather here, the place would grind to a total halt!
And it is FUN! I have not been real active past month. Getting out to cut wood makes a body feel useful again. Wish the Wif would understand that, even though we have more than enough wood right now it is Fun to me to cut and process firewood. Actually, She does understand but is just trying to rein in my hoarding tendencies!
Old Timers out here are actually called "Moss Backs". I Keep waiting for the moss to move to my head to supplant my thinning hair!

Well, good luck on the thinning hair but I doubt the moss will help on that one.

Couple of years ago we traveled up the Washington coast and into Alaska ... The whole area besides this strange anomaly that is Victoria (felt almost tropical island complete with palm trees) was the same temperate rain forest climate. It's absolutely beautiful. And wet. Really wet. Rained every day... Only clear sky was above the clouds in the Yukon.

Do you have December? We southern cheeseheads had a couple weeks of December in November, but since then it's been a more like late March.

Yes, pretty much a late March around here. Up north Wisconsin, not really much different. Just a little more snow, but not a lot more.

In Washington we normally don't have a real winter. There are really two seasons, We call them "The Rainy Season" and "August"!

My wife moved to Wisconsin from Portland, OR. I nearly moved to the pnw and both of my brothers at one time lived in Portland. My oldest brother still lives there. Plus, my SIL grew up in Seattle, and moved from Portland to go to Florida.

What is funny was that at one point, I lived in Maine, the oldest brother was in Portland OR, and the middle brother was in st pete Florida. It's pretty hard to get too much more distance between us all, staying in the continental US.

We grew up in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Finally got a dry day to split and stack all that deodar. Just under a cord and a half. The Wif helped stack and did all the cleanup! cedar.jpg
