Took advantage of these nice mid 40’s temperatures we’re having here and refilled the rack. Mostly cherry and some sugar maple on the right and white oak on the left in case it ever gets cold here. Wife has been off work since end of October because of our new son and the stove has only gone cold a few times since then. This has been the longest stretch of solid burning I’ve ever done in this house. Going to have to do a little extra scrounging, feel like I’m going through more wood than I should be. Gonna let stove go cold and check all gaskets real good as we have a 50 degree day coming.

Of course the helpers were out. They love when I crack into a new stack and disrupt all the critters. Didn’t catch anything tonight though.

Yep it has been pretty cold being so early in the burning season. Going through a little more wood than normal.

Gus, the black dog will stay outside for hours on end sitting like a statue waiting for something to cross his path, I swear he’s part feline the way he hunts. Has caught possum, mice, muskrat, chipmunks and even a feral cat once. Bella, the brown one likes to chace mice and rabbits around a bit but loses interest quick and wants to come inside and lay by the fire.

I really liked your post! Nice looking firewood you have there, and the dogs look like good company.

I do the same thing as you , bringing the wood closer to the stove and keeping it covered helps keep everything
    really dry.

My final rack is in the garage close to the stove... Softer wood on the right, harder wood on the left.
