Can anyone "weigh" in on how accurate vehicle weights are that are listed on titles?
I have a C4500 that has a cargo van box which will be removed for a different body. Just trying to get an accurate chassis weight.
Web searches are all over the place.

I believe the state gets figures from manufacturers. But if any changes are made, it makes the figures wrong. I think you can get the vehicle weighted and take the slip to the SOS. But it could be different in each state too.

Best to get it on a certified scale to know for sure. Went through this at my last gig with a bunch of trucks. Many of them were off from the title weight by a lot.

Weights could be off. Up here they go by what GVW you pay for when you register. For instance my pickup showed a GVW of 2395 Kgs.(5269 lbs.) when I got it. I re registered it for a GVW of 4499 Kgs.(9898lbs) Anything over 4500 Kgs. up here is considered commercial and requires a log book and daily driver safety check. Keeping it at 4499 gives me plenty of registered weight to carry my tractor on my flat deck trailer and still be legal. Also up here if you tow a tandem trailer you are required to have trailer brakes and both the truck and trailer need to have a safety inspection done annually. Not sure how NYS handles Registered GVW.

I know the weight with the box on (11700).
I need a chassis weight without removing the box so I can spec and purchase the correct hoist.
The box company is no help on box weight.
I called a box truck company today to pick their brain on an estimated weight of the box. They said " too many variables in the build to guess accurate ".
2500 -3500 was their educated guess.
If it is 3500 that would get it down to what's on the title

Ouch. That's a tough one since you aren't able to remove the box.
